【브레이크뉴스 의성】진예솔 기자=포항 앞바다 석유 시추를 위한 대왕고래 프로젝트로 인해 경북지역 어민들의 피해를 우려하는 목소리가 나오고 있다.

지난 8일 더불어민주당 임미애 의원(농해수위/비례대표)은 국회 농림축산식품해양수산위원회의 해양수산부 국정감사에서 대왕고래 프로젝트로 인한 어민 피해 현황을 보이며 이에 대한 대책 마련을 촉구했다.

포항·울산 인근 해역에는 붉은 대게, 방어류, 오징어 등을 기반으로 생계를 유지하는 어가가 많이 있다. 

포항·울산 어가에서는 대왕고래 프로젝트 추진으로 어업 활동이 피해를 입을까 걱정하고 있다. 실제 2024년 7월까지의 생산금액은 1,020억원으로 2023년도 대비 약 35% 가량 낮은 상황이다. 

대왕고래 프로젝트의 시추는 연말로 예정되어 있는데 오징어의 성어기가 10월부터이고 붉은대게의 성어기가 8월부터 다음 해 7월까지임을 감안하면 어민들에게 직접적인 피해가 있을 것이 예상된다.

시추 작업뿐만 아니라 관련 장비 이동 과정에서 바다에 쳐둔 그물을 손상시킬 위험도 있다. 채낚기어선의 경우 그물 한 틀이 1200~1400만원 가량 하고 평균 20개 내지 30개 정도 사용하는데 적절한 피해보상 방안이 없는 상황이다.

임미애 의원은 강도형 해양수산부장관에게 이러한 실태와 어민들의 우려를 질의를 통해 전달하면서 “현장에서 어민들의 이런 고통을 듣고 어민들을 대변해 산자부에 맞서 목소리를 내달라”고 말했다.

이에 강도형 장관은 “환경 부분과 어업에 대한 부분은 현장의 목소리를 충분히 들어야 가능한 일”이라며 대책 마련에 나서겠다고 답변했다.

Rep. Im Mi-ae conveyed this reality and the concerns of fishermen to Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyung through a question and asked, “Listen to the fishermen’s suffering on site and speak up against the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on their behalf.”

In response, Minister Kang Do-hyung said, “The environment and the fishing industry are only possible if you listen to the voices of the field,” and that he would come up with measures.
