임 의원은 박근혜, 문재인 대통령 등 역대 대통령 모두 해양경찰의 날 기념식에 참석해 독도 수호 의지를 밝힌 것과 달리 윤석열 대통령이 지난해 기념식에 참석해 독도를 언급조차 하지 않은 사실을 지적했다.

역대 대통령이 해양경찰의 날 기념식에 참석해 연설한 기념사를 확인한 결과, 박근혜 대통령은 제 60주년 해양경찰의 날 기념식에서 “독도 남방해역을 수호하기 위해 취역하는 청룡함의 첫 항해를 진심으로 축하한다. 독도를 지키는 것은 우리 대한민국의 자존심을 지키는 것이다”고 독도 수호 의지를 당부했다.

문재인 대통령 역시 제64 주년 해양경찰의 날 기념식에서 “삼면이 바다인 우리에게 바다는 안보이자, 경제이며, 민생이다. 바다 영토와 주권 수호에 한 치의 빈틈도 있어서는 안 된다. 독도, 이어도 등 외곽 도서 경비체계를 더욱 강화해 어떤 세력도 우리 바다를 넘보지 못하게 해야 한다”며 독도 수호 의지를 분명히 했다.

그러나 윤석열 대통령은 작년 해양경찰의 날 기념식에서 ‘해양주권, 안보 수호’에서는 언급했지만 독도에 대한 발언은 전혀 하지 않은 것으로 확인됐다.

임미애 의원은 “대통령이 해양경찰의 날 기념식에 참석해서 독도 해양영토 주권수호 사명을 해경에게 당부하지 않는데 해경이 독도 영토 수호 의지가 생기겠는가”라며 “윤석열 정부의 독도지우기에 대한 진상조사가 필요하다”고 강조했다.
