육 의원은 더불어민주당 비례대표로 제9대 대구시의회에 입성했으나, 최근 자신의 SNS를 통해 지난 대선 당시 민주당 후보를 공개 비판하고 타 정당 후보 지지를 선언해 논란을 일으켰다.

그러나 육 의원은 징계 이후 탈당 요구에 반발하고 있다. 그는 앞서 자신의 페이스북을 통해 “탈당하면 시의원직을 상실하게 된다”며 “개혁신당에서 이준석 대표와 함께 정치를 이어가겠다”고 밝힌 바 있다. 

민주당의 징계에 대해서는 “이유도 되지 않는 정치적 제명”이라며 반발했다.

이에 대해 시당은 “정당의 이름과 지지를 통해 얻은 공적 지위를 유지할 명분이 없다”며 “정치적 책임을 회피한 채 자리를 고수하는 것은 정치적 도덕성의 파산”이라고 지적했다. 시당은 육 의원이 정당 정치의 기본 원칙을 저버린 만큼, 스스로 탈당해 본인의 정치 노선에 따라 행동할 것을 거듭 요구했다.

한편, 더불어민주당은 현행 공직선거법상 비례대표 의원의 경우 제명당하면 의원직을 유지할 수 있어, 육 의원을 단순 제명하는 방식으로는 정치적 책임을 제대로 묻기 어렵다는 입장을 밝혔다.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Korea stated that under the current Public Official Election Act, proportional representation members can maintain their seats if they are expelled, so it would be difficult to properly hold Rep. Yuk politically responsible by simply expelling him.
