특히 “내년 지방선거를 앞두고 시의원들이 안주찬 구제에 나선다면, 이는 시민주권에 대한 정면 도전”이라며 “그 책임은 공천권자인 구자근·강명구 국회의원에게 돌아갈 것”이라고 지적했다. 이어 “구미시민들도 그 정도는 다 안다”고 덧붙였다.

단체는 안 의원을 향해 “1표차 낙선의 미련을 버리고 당장 사퇴하라”며 “폭행 피해 공무원에게 대면 사과하고, 시민 앞에 공개 사죄하라”고 요구했다.

한편, 구미시의회는 조만간 본회의를 열고 제명안을 표결에 부칠 예정이다. 지역 정가와 시민단체는 본회의에서 어떤 판단이 내려질지 촉각을 곤두세우고 있다.
