【브레이크뉴스 구미】진예솔 기자=국민의힘 구자근 국회의원(경북 구미갑)은 산업통상자원부가 공모한 ‘AI 기반 사용 후 배터리 평가 및 재사용 지원 기반구축 사업’이 구미시에 최종 선정돼 총사업비 233억 원 규모의 국비를 확보했다고 밝혔다.
이 사업은 올해부터 2029년까지 진행되며, 구미시는 한국화학융합시험연구원(KTR)과 함께 배터리 전주기 데이터를 수집·관리하고, AI를 기반으로 한 재사용 배터리 통합지원 플랫폼을 구축할 예정이다. 구미국가산단 1공단 내 600평 유휴부지에 통합지원센터를 조성하고, 사용 후 배터리의 안정성 평가부터 진단, 인증, 리패키징까지 전 과정을 관리하는 체계를 갖추게 된다.
전기차 보급 확대와 함께 2030년에는 연간 10만 개 이상의 사용 후 배터리가 발생할 것으로 예상되며, 정부는 이 시장을 미래 유망 산업으로 보고 지원책을 마련 중이다.
이번 사업은 지난해 착공한 ‘BaaS(배터리 서비스) 시험 실증센터’와 연계되어, 구미가 배터리 재사용 산업의 전주기를 아우르는 원스톱 거점으로 성장할 기반을 마련하게 됐다. 두 사업을 합치면 총사업비는 637억 원에 달한다.
또한 AI를 활용한 배터리 진단 솔루션 개발, 실증장비 및 리패키징 지원 인프라 구축과 함께, 학계·산업계·연구기관 간의 기술 교류 네트워크도 조성된다. 센터 완공 후에는 KTR 대구경북센터에 석·박사급 연구인력 50여 명이 상주할 예정이다.
KTR 김현철 원장은 “구미가 이차전지 산업의 신산업 거점이 되도록 Baas 실증센터를 중심으로 전주기 지원체계를 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
구자근 의원은 “이번 사업 유치는 지난해 BaaS 실증센터에 이어 구미시를 중심으로 재사용 배터리 산업 생태계를 완성해가는 과정의 핵심”이라며 “앞으로도 구미가 글로벌 스탠다드를 주도하는 신산업 중심지로 성장할 수 있도록 다양한 산업 기반을 지속적으로 유치하겠다”고 강조했다.

An integrated support center will be established on a 600-pyeong idle site in Gumi National Industrial Complex 1, and a system will be established to manage the entire process from stability evaluation of used batteries to diagnosis, certification, and repackaging.
With the expansion of electric vehicle distribution, it is expected that more than 100,000 used batteries will be generated annually by 2030, and the government is preparing support measures, viewing this market as a promising future industry.
This project is linked to the ‘BaaS (Battery Service) Test Demonstration Center’ that began construction last year, and has laid the foundation for Gumi to grow into a one-stop base covering the entire cycle of the battery reuse industry. The total project cost of the two projects combined amounts to 63.7 billion won.
In addition, along with the development of battery diagnostic solutions using AI, the establishment of demonstration equipment and repackaging support infrastructure, a technology exchange network between academia, industry, and research institutes will also be established. After the center is completed, approximately 50 master’s and doctoral level researchers are expected to reside at the KTR Daegu Gyeongbuk Center.
KTR President Kim Hyun-chul said, “We will expand the entire cycle support system centered on the Baas Demonstration Center so that Gumi can become a new industry base for the secondary battery industry.”
Rep. Koo Ja-geun emphasized, “This project attraction is the core of the process of completing the reusable battery industry ecosystem centered on Gumi City, following the BaaS demonstration center last year,” and “We will continue to attract various industrial bases so that Gumi can grow into a new industry center leading global standards.”
