6일 오전 11시, 김대중홀에서 열린 회견에서는 총괄선거대책위원장단과 상임선대위원장단을 소개하고, 이재명 대선 후보의 공약과 지역 비전이 담긴 회견문을 발표했다.

특히 국민의힘 출신 최연숙 전 국회의원의 더불어민주당 입당과 동시에 총괄선대위원장직을 맡으며 눈길을 끌었다.

최 위원장은 "역할을 맡기까지 많은 고심이 있었다"고 말했다. 그는 “대구는 인구 규모는 크지만 고용률, 청년 유출, 삶의 만족도 등 주요 지표에서 전국 최하위”라며 “국민의힘이 대구를 지배해왔지만 지역 상황은 나아지지 않았다. 이제는 바꿔야 한다”고 밝혔다.

입당 배경에 대해서는 “대구에 필요한 건 실질적 변화와 유연한 정책”이라며 “김민석 의원의 추천을 계기로 이재명 후보와의 대화를 통해 확신을 얻었다. 이 후보는 대구를 살릴 비전과 실행력을 갖춘 인물”이라고 말했다.

함께 임명된 총괄선대위원장은 홍의락 전 국회의원과 허소 대구시당위원장으로 민주당은 이번 인선을 통해 대구에서의 외연 확장과 정치적 변화의 메시지를 강조했다.
