29일 오전 김서희 의원은 국민의힘에 탈당계를 제출한 직후 개혁신당 입당환영식에 참석해 지도부를 만났다.

이날 김 의원은 “국민추천제라는 해괴망측한 제도로 주민의 의사를 무시하고 검증되지 않은 후보를 낙하산으로 내리꽂은 국민의힘의 만행에 분노를 느꼈다”며 탈당 이유를 설명했다.

또한 그는 “건강상의 이유로 선거를 많이 돕지 못한 나에게 모욕을 주고, 당협사무실과 한 약속도 지키지 않았다”며 “상식 밖의 행동을 하는 최은석 차기 국회의원과는 도저히 함께할 수 없다”고 주장했다.

그러면서 “대한민국 정치를 새롭게 만드는 일에 힘을 모으고자 개혁신당에 입당한다”며 “다가오는 2026년 지방선거에서 개혁신당이 반드시 대구의 중심세력이 되고, 차기 대선에서 수권정당이 되도록 하는데 최선을 다하겠다”고 입장을 전했다.

지난 4.10 국회의원 선거 당시 국민의힘 공천관리위원회가 대구 동구·군위갑을 국민추천제 지역으로 지정하자 대구 동구갑 당원협의회와 일부주민들은 “전략공천을 위한 꼼수”라며 반발한 바 있다.
