대구 동구의회 김은옥 의원이 대표 발의한 ‘대구광역시 동구 참전유공자 예우 및 지원에 관한 조례 일부개정조례안’이 제340회 정례회 제4차 본회의에서 통과됐다.
지난 11월 발의된 조례는 참전유공자에 대한 예우 및 지원 강화를 위해 참전유공자 사망 시 지급하는 사망위로금을 10만원에서 30만원으로 인상하는 내용을 담고 있다.
지난해 6월 정부조직법 개정으로 국가보훈처는 창설 62년만에 국가보훈부로 승격되었으며, 동구의회는 김상호 의원 대표 발의로 올해 2월 '참전유공자 예우 및 지원에 관한 조례'를 제정해 국가유공자 예우를 강화하고, 보훈 문화를 강화하는 방안을 마련하였다.
김은옥 의원은 “해마다 많은 참전유공자분들이 고령과 질환으로 사망하고 있다”며 “앞으로도 국가를 위해 헌신하신 분들이 합당한 예우를 받으실 수 있도록 최선의 노력을 하겠다”고 말했다.
