19일 정해용 전 대구시 경제부시장은 SNS를 통해 “대구시민의 자존심을 짓밟는 이런 행동을 더 이상 좌시할 수 없다”며 비판에 나섰다.

그는 “공천을 신청했던 한 사람으로 이미 결정된 일을 논하고 싶지 않았지만 많은 주민들은 낙선한 내게 새로 공천 받은 사람이 누구인지를 묻고 있다”며 “지역 연고와 어떤 성과를 낸 사람인지 추천한 당에서 설명을 해주는 것이 지역 주민에 최소한의 설명은 하는 것이 예의”라고 지적했다.

그러면서 그는 “어차피 선거는 끝난 것이라 생각할 수 있고 결과도 예상대로 될 수도 있지만 선거 때마다 있어온 낙하산이 이번만큼은 아닐 것이라는 주민들의 기대를 뭉개버린 상처는 오래도록 남을 것”이라며 “비록 낙천했지만, 28년간 당을 위해 헌신했던 것처럼 영원히 당을 사랑하는 한사람으로 남아 다시는 이런 짓이 반복되지 않도록 끝까지 싸울 것”이라고 말했다.

임재화 변호사 또한 “국민의힘 공관위가 대구 동구군위갑 공천을 국민추천제라는 이름으로 시민들에 대한 철저한 무시와 폭력적인 행태로 마무리 지었다”며 성명을 발표했다.

그는 “선수로 뛴 예비후보 입장에서는 어안이 벙벙하다”며 “정당민주주의라는 가면을 쓰고 그 속에는 폭력배 그 이상 그 이하도 아닌 행태였다”고 강하게 날을 세웠다.

임 변호사는 “대통령과 비대위원장이 검사 출신이고 해서 그나마 공정을 조금 기대했는데 억장이 무너진다”며 “현재 정부의 국가 권력이나 행정권 행사도 이런 식인가 하는 의구심이 든다”고 말했다.

그러면서 “폭력과 불의에 대해서 저항하는 것이 대한민국 헌법적 가치”라며 “어떻게 할 것인지 고민하고 행동을 다짐한다”고 입장을 밝혔다.

이날 대구 동구군위갑 현역인 류성걸 의원 역시 불출마를 선언하면서 “국민추천제에 대해 많은 분들이 여러 문제점을 지적한 만큼 우리 당에서 제도적으로 관련 사항을 더 논의 하고 발전시켜 고민을 해야 될 상황을 만들지 않는 것이 바람직하다”고 꼬집었다.

앞서 손종익 전 윤석열 대통령후보 중앙선대위 정무특보는 “국민추천제를 납득할 수 없다”며 국민의힘 공관위에 재심을 요청한 것으로 알려진다.

그는 “국민에 의한 공천인 만큼 반드시 과정과 공천기준 전반에 관해 투명하게 공개를 해야한다”며 “투명하게 공개하지 않는다면 이는 국민공천이 아니라 국민공천을 빙자한 국민사천이자 국민 사기공천”이라고 주장했다.
