7일 임 예비후보는 “대구의 물류운송 패러다임을 전환해 물류비절감 및 지역경제 활성화에 일조하고자 한다”며 이같이 밝혔다.

그는 “대구는 국가산업단지 1곳, 일반산업단지 16곳, 도시첨단단지 3곳, 농공단지 2곳 등이 위치하고 있고, 국제물류주선업 등록법인 또한 50개 이상 영업하고 있어 물류량이 결코 적지 않은 지역”이라며 “금호강을 접한 경산시, 영천시 또한 플랜트 및 방산산업으로 특수물류 수요가 적지 않은 실정”이라고 말했다.

그러면서 “현재 대구의 물류는 차량운송과 항공운송이 주를 이루고 있어 물류비 점감을 기대할 수 없는 여건이며, 특수화물 운송 수요에도 부응하지 못하고 있다”고 설명을 이어갔다.

임 예비후보는 “대구군공항 후적지와 연계해 아양교 인근에 내륙항을 설치하고, 영일만에 위치한 포항신항까지 수로를 연결해 선박운송으로 대형화물, 특수화물, 플랜트화물, 군수물자 등을 운송하고자 한다”고 전했다.

내륙항이 위치한 아양교 인근에서 고경지까지 약 60km구간인 금호강과 고촌천‧하곡지(딱실못)에서 영일만까지 약 24.8km구간인 형산강‧칠평천의 하천을 정비하고, 고경저수지(해발 약 150m)와 하곡지(해발 약 52m) 약 2.8km 구간은 운하를 건설해 대구에서 영일만까지 선박운송로를 조성하겠다는 계획이다.

그는 “내륙항 및 물류단지 조성, 금호강 ~ 형산강 구간 운하 건설 등을 통해 대구·경북 경제가 비상할 수 있는 원동력을 확보함과 동시에 일자리 창출에도 기여하는 바가 매우 클 것”이라고 내다봤다. 

또한 “연해항만과 지역 내 산업과의 연계를 통해 무역·물류산업 활성화에도 중추적인 역할이 기대되며, 규모의 경제와 화물의 대형화를 실현시켜 막대한 경제적 이점을 가져다 줄 것”이라고 분석했다.
