지난 20일 김병준 위원장을 만난 배 청장은 대구 동구가 대한민국을 대표하는 세계적인 도시로 가기 위해 ▲K-2 후적지의 세계적인 명소화 ▲K-2 후적지를 연계한 팔공산과 금호강의 세계적인 관광도시 조성 ▲첨단산업 허브도시 조성 ▲대구경북 중심 상업•명품주거도시 조성 ▲교육•문화•체육의 명품도시 조성 등의 핵심현안이 필요함을 밝혔다. 

특히 동구 내 중•고등학교 신설을 강력하게 요청한 배기철 청장은 K-2 후적지 개발, 안심뉴타운, 연경지구, 신암•신천•효목동 재건축, 재개발 등 대단위 주거단지가 급격히 증가하고 있음을 이유로 들어 지역균형발전을 위해서라도 동구에 중•고등학교의 신설이 반드시 필요하다고 강조했다.

아울러 배기철 동구청장은 “K-2 후적지 개발, 관광•첨단산업 활성화로 대구 동구가 윤석열 정부의 균형발전을 이끌어 나가는 도시, 대한민국을 상징하는 세계적인 도시로 만들어 나가야 한다.”고 말했다.

한편 배 청장은 지난 18일, 동구청장 예비후보에 등록하고 본격적인 선거 채비에 들어갔다.
