이들은 지난 17일 대구시가 대구경북 행정통합 관련 보도자료에서 2045년 인구 성장률과 취업률, 경제 성장률 등을 전망한 수치에 대해 “장밋빛을 넘어 터무니 없는 무리수”라고 비판했다.

또한 “명칭을 바꿔 신장개업한다고 지역이 성장하지 않는다”며 “지역 역량에 부합하고, 다른 지역과 시너지를 낼 수 있는 경제성장 정책을 펼쳐야 하고, 통합 이전에 대구와 경북이 서로 협업하는 정책을 추진해야 한다”고 주장했다.

그러면서 “대구‧경북이 통합특별시가 되면 16개 16개 광역자치단체 중 6개가 특별시”라며 “범국가 차원의 근본적인 행정구역 개편 논의가 진행되어야 한다”고 강조했다.

개혁신당은 “대구와 경북이 통합추진보다 현실적인 지역발전 정책을 개발하고 주민의 삶의 질을 높이는데 앞장서야 한다”며 “통합 추진에 소모될 행정력과 비용을 줄여 보다 실제적인 미래건설에 앞설 것을 부탁한다”고 덧붙였다.
