정진석 위원장 및 비대위원들이 이날 대구를 찾았을 즈음, 대구지역 국민의힘 당원들 가운데 상당수가 이들의 방문을 내키지 않는 모습들이 관측됐다. 기자의 질문에서 느낄 수 있듯 지역민들의 민심은 물론 당원들도 예전과는 달리 그리 우호적이지 않았던 것이다. 

실제, 대구지역 일부 국민의힘 당원들과 과거 국민의힘 전신이었던 새누리당 등에서 봉사해왔던 선배 당원 및 당직자들 가운데는 지금의 국민의힘이 새로운 미래를 이끌어 나갈 동력을 잃었다고 평가했다. 전당대회 등을 통해 새로운 지도부가 탄생 되더라도 국민의 높아진 눈높이에는 맞추기 어려울 것이란 전망도 내놨다.  

그러면서 국힘이 살고 윤석열 대통령이 부담 없는 국정을 하기 위해서는 당이나 대통령이나 특단의 결단을 해야 한다고 제안했다. 결국 대통령의 탈당이 현재로서는 답이란 주장이다.
