국립금오공대 RISE사업단과 구미시 등의 주관으로 2월 23일 교내 청운대에서 열린 이번 포럼에는 지역 방산기업과 유관기관 관계자 100여 명이 참석했다. 포럼은 2026년 방위산업 정책 및 제도 변화에 대한 정보를 공유하고, 지역 방산기업 중심의 지·산·학 협력 체계를 공고히 하기 위해 마련됐다.

행사는 김상호 총장의 환영사를 시작으로 ▲2026년 방위산업 주요 정책 및 제도 설명(방위사업청) ▲2026년 구미시 방산기업 지원사업 소개 ▲RISE사업 및 경북형 국방혁신단 G-DIU 운영 현황 발표 ▲육군 전력지원체계사업단 주요 사업 및 추진 방향 발표 순으로 진행됐다.

이날 국립금오공대와 구미 방위산업 기업협의회 간 업무협약도 체결됐다. 양 기관은 방산기업 기술 수요 조사 및 사업화 촉진, 산학협력 과제 발굴과 공동 연구, 방위산업 인재양성 프로그램 공동 운영, 글로벌 방산시장 진출 협력, 연구·기술 자원과 시설·인프라 공동 활용 등에서 협력을 확대하기로 했다.

김상호 총장은 “급변하는 방위산업 환경에서 지역 기업의 지속적 성장을 위해서는 정책 이해와 협력 네트워크 구축이 필수적”이라며 “RISE사업과 경북형 국방혁신단 G-DIU를 기반으로 지역 방위산업 혁신 거점 역할을 지속적으로 수행하겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편 국립금오공대는 지역혁신중심 대학지원체계 RISE사업을 통해 지역 전략산업과 연계한 산학협력 체계를 강화하고 있으며, 경북형 국방혁신단 G-DIU 운영을 통해 방산기업 기술 지원, 사업화 컨설팅, 전문 교육 프로그램 등 다양한 지원 사업을 추진하고 있다.

Kumoh National Institute of Technology (KIT) hosted the '2026 Gyeongbuk Gumi Defense Industry Network Activation and Policy Sharing Forum' to strengthen the local defense industry ecosystem.

The forum, hosted by KIT's RISE Project Team and the Gumi City, was held on February 23rd at Cheongwoon University on campus. Approximately 100 representatives from local defense companies and related organizations attended. The forum aimed to share information on defense industry policy and institutional changes for 2026 and solidify the cooperation system among industry, science, and academia centered on local defense companies.

The event began with a welcoming address by President Kim Sang-ho, followed by an explanation of key defense industry policies and systems for 2026 (Defense Acquisition Program Administration), an introduction to Gumi City's defense industry support projects for 2026, a presentation on the current status of the RISE project and the Gyeongbuk Defense Innovation Unit (G-DIU) operation, and an announcement of the Army's Force Support System Project Group's key projects and directions.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed that day between Kumoh National Institute of Technology and the Gumi Defense Industry Business Council. The two organizations agreed to expand cooperation in areas such as technology demand surveys and commercialization promotion for defense industry companies, the identification and joint research of industry-academia collaboration projects, joint operation of defense industry talent development programs, cooperation in entering the global defense industry market, and the joint use of research and technology resources, facilities, and infrastructure.

President Kim Sang-ho stated, "In a rapidly changing defense industry environment, policy understanding and the establishment of cooperative networks are essential for the sustainable growth of local companies. Building on the RISE project and the Gyeongbuk Defense Innovation Unit (G-DIU), we will continue to serve as a regional defense industry innovation hub."

Meanwhile, Kumoh National Institute of Technology is strengthening its industry-academia cooperation system linked to regional strategic industries through the RISE project, a regional innovation-centered university support system, and is promoting various support projects such as technology support for defense companies, commercialization consulting, and specialized training programs through the operation of the Gyeongbuk-type Defense Innovation Unit G-DIU.
