【브레이크뉴스 구미】이성현 기자=국립금오공과대학교가 글로벌 역량을 갖춘 미래 인재 양성을 지원하고 학생들의 영어 의사소통 능력과 발표 역량 강화를 위해 ‘제1회 영어 프레젠테이션 경진대회’를 개최했다.

국립금오공대 지역협력단 주관으로 지난 1월 31일 교내 산학협력관 대강당에서 열린 이번 대회는 구미시가 추진하는 ‘대학과 함께하는 미래인재 양성사업’의 일환으로 마련됐다. 대회에는 구미시 관내 중학교 재학생으로 구성된 12개 팀, 총 38명이 참가해 구미시의 역사와 명소 등 지역과 관련된 다양한 주제를 영어로 발표하며 논리적 사고력과 표현력을 겨뤘다.

심사를 통해 우수한 발표를 선보인 팀에게는 구미시장상과 국립금오공과대학교 총장상이 수여되었으며, 참가 학생들은 영어 발표 경험을 통해 자신감과 실전 의사소통 능력을 키우는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다.

대회에 참가한 권민서 학생(해마루중 3학년)은 “많은 사람들 앞에서 영어로 발표하는 것이 큰 도전이었지만, 이번 경험을 통해 영어 실력에 대한 자신감을 얻고 한 단계 성장할 수 있었다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

이날 행사에 참석해 학생들을 격려한 김영형 국립금오공대 지역협력단장은 “이번 경진대회가 대학과 지역사회가 협력해 청소년들의 잠재력과 가능성을 키우고, 글로벌 인재로 성장하기 위한 동기를 높이는 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “앞으로도 구미시와 함께 지역 학생들을 위한 다양한 교육 프로그램을 지속적으로 운영해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 구미시와 국립금오공과대학교는 이번 영어 프레젠테이션 경진대회를 시작으로, 미래 사회에 필요한 핵심 역량을 갖춘 인재 양성을 목표로 학생 맞춤형 교육 프로그램을 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

Kumoh National Institute of Technology (KIT) Hosts First English Presentation Competition… Strengthening Global Competency for Youth

Kumoh National Institute of Technology (KIT) hosted the "First English Presentation Competition" to support the development of future talent with global competencies and to enhance students' English communication and presentation skills.

Hosted on January 31st in the main auditorium of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Building on campus, the competition, hosted by the KIT Regional Cooperation Foundation, was part of the Gumi City Government's "Future Talent Development Project with Universities." Twelve teams, comprised of 38 middle school students from Gumi City, competed in the competition. They presented in English on a variety of local topics, including the city's history and landmarks, demonstrating their logical reasoning and expressive skills.

The teams with the most outstanding presentations were awarded the Gumi Mayor's Award and the KIT President's Award. The participating students enjoyed a meaningful time developing confidence and practical communication skills through English presentation experience.

Minseo Kwon (3rd year, Haemaru Middle School), a student who participated in the competition, said, "Presenting in English in front of a large audience was a significant challenge, but this experience helped me gain confidence in my English skills and further develop my skills."

Kim Young-hyung, Director of the Regional Cooperation Center at Kumoh National Institute of Technology, who attended the event and encouraged the students, said, "I hope this competition will serve as an opportunity for universities and local communities to collaborate to develop the potential and possibilities of young people and motivate them to grow into global talents." He added, "We will continue to work with the city of Gumi to offer diverse educational programs for local students."

Meanwhile, starting with this English presentation competition, Gumi City and Kumoh National Institute of Technology plan to continuously expand customized educational programs for students, aiming to cultivate talent with the core competencies needed for future society.
