지난 2일 오후 2시 박정희정신계승사업회는 “윤석열 정부의 성공을 시키기 위해서는 경륜이 검증된 사람이 당대표가 되어야한다.”며 김기현 후보에 대한 지지를 선언했다.

이들은 “지난해 12월 한국근현대사교육과정 편향시정 토론회에서 김기현 후보가 축사를 통해 왜 박정희 정신이 강조되어야 하는지에 대한 견해를 밝혔는데 이는 사업회의 지향과 정확히 일치한다.”고 언급하며 “김기현 후보를 당대표 적임자로 적극 지지하는 근본적 이유”라고 설명했다.

이어 3일 오후 2시에는 국민의힘 경북지역 전‧현직 시군의원 430명이 김기현 후보에 대한 지지선언을 발표했다. 

이들은 지지선언문을 통해 “국민의힘이 여당이 되었지만 아직 민주당이 다수당인 상태에서 국민의 힘이 단합되지 않고는 윤석열 정부의 성공을 기약하기 어렵다.”고 밝히며 “윤석열 대통령의 성공적인 국가재건을 위해 힘을 실어줄 수 있는 적임자가 김기현 후보”라고 강조했다.

또한  “당내 분열을 잠재울 수 있는 그리고 싸울 땐 싸우고 협상할 땐 협상하는 정치력을 가진 당대표 후보, 내년 총선을 앞둔 이 위기 상황에서 최고의 해결사인 김기현 당대표 후보를 적극지지 한다.”고 목소리를 높였다.

같은 날 오후 4시에는 대구시 국민의힘 소속 광역‧기초의원이 김기현 후보 지지 선언 행사를 개최했다.

대구에서는 대구시의회 국민의힘 소속 의원 30명 전원과 8개 구‧군의 기초의원 92명 전원이 김기현 후보 지지에 한 목소리를 모았다.

이날 의원들을 대표해 나선 대구시의회 이만규 의장은 “최근 대구‧경북이 결집하면서 김기현 후보의 지지도가 상당히 오르고 있다.”면서 “이 가운데 대구지역 의원들이 한 사람도 빠짐없이 김기현 후보를 지지한다고 입장을 밝혀 오늘 이 같은 선언을 하게 되었다.”고 전했다.

또한 대구시의회 이재화 원내대표는 선언문을 통해 “정권 교체에는 성공했으나 국민을 위해 우리가 해결해야 할 과제가 많이 남아 있다.”면서 “내년 22대 총선의 승리와 윤석열 정부 개혁 과제 완수 및 지역 현안 문제 해결을 위해서는 소통과 화합의 구심점 역할과 함께 일 잘하는 유능한 정당을 만들 수 있는 인물이 당대표가 되어야 하며 이를 위한 적임자는 김기현 후보”라고 강조했다.
