【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=권영진 전 대구시장이 주도하고 있는 것으로 알려진 ‘분권과 통합’ 포럼이 지역 사회 관심사로 떠오르고 있다. 지난 1일 대구은행 제 2 본점 2층 강당에서 첫 모임을 가진 이 포럼의 첫 특강은 김병준 위원장이 맡았다. 

이 포럼이 주목을 받는 이유는 권 전 시장의 내년 총선 출마와 관련이 있기 때문이라는 분석이다. 또한 3월 8일 실시되는 국민의힘 전당대회와도 관련이 있다고 보는 게 정가의 해석이다.

실제, 최근 권 전 시장은 차기 총선과 관련해 출마 의향을 간접적으로 내비치고 있다. 때문에 포럼이 출마를 위한 워밍업이라고 보는 이들이 적지 않다. 

그러나, 이 같은 분석과 관련해 권 전 시장은 조심스럽다. 그는 “대구시장을 역임하면서 누구보다 지방분권과 지방시대의 필요성을 뼈저리게 느껴왔다”며 “포럼은 뭐랄까. 그렇게 단체장을 지낸 사람으로 그(지방분권) 필요성에 조금이라도 힘을 보태기 위한 책임감이라고 해야 할까..그런 것이지, 세간에서 추측하듯이 나의 출마를 전제로 한 모임은 결코 아니다”라고 말했다. 

이어 “지금 우리나라는 수도권으로 모든 것이 쏠려 있다. 이래서는 지방도 힘들어지고, 나아가 대한민국도 경쟁력을 잃어갈 수밖에 없다. 더 이상 이대로 두어서는 지방은 가망이 없다. 지방이 살고 대한민국 역시 경쟁력을 더 키우기 위해서는 지방에 힘이 실려야 한다. 지방분권과 균형발전, 그리고 국민통합이 이뤄져야 하는 이유다. 그런 면에서 대통령과 정치권, 행정이 힘을 합쳐 특단의 대책을 세워야 한다”고 강조했다.

그는 “할 수만 있다면 수도권에 몰려 있는 경제, 교육, 행정, 정치, 이런 것들을 강제로라도 지방으로 이전해야 한다. 가장 먼저 공공기관이 모범을 보이면 좋을 것 같다”고 덧붙였다.

또, 그는 “나와 같은 생각을 하는 분들이 지금은 굉장히 많은 것으로 알고 있다. 포럼이 이러한 의견을 한데 모으는 역할을 했으면 한다. 모인 의견을 중심으로 구체적인 활동 계획도 세우고, 어떡하든 지방분권의 현실화에 힘을 보탤 생각이다. 이를 위해 첫 모임 외에 3월 발기인 대회를 통해 본격적인 활동을 추진할 생각”이라고 덧붙였다. 

총선 출마와 관련해서는 “총선 출마를 할 것이냐, 하게 되면 어느 지역으로 할 것이냐 등 그 어떤 것도 결정된 것이 없다. 지금은 여기까지만 말씀드릴 수 있다”고 말을 아꼈다. 다만 그는 “대구를 위해 할 수 있는 역할, 아니 해야 할 역할이 주어지면, 뒤로 뺴지 않고, 몸 사리지 않고 일할 것이다. 그 어떤 것이든 봉사하는 자세로 나서야 되지 않겠느냐”며 여지를 남겨뒀다.

그는 국민의힘 전당대회와 관련해서는 “관심 있게 지켜보고 있다. 최근 대통령께서 아주 긴박하면서도 명확한 메시지를 내보내고 있는데, 그 메시지를 전달하는 메신저가 국민적 눈높이와 맞지 않아서 안타깝다”며 “그럼에도 어떤 정부에서건 대통령이 원하는 사람이 대표가 되지 않은 적이 없다. 그만큼 당과 대통령간의 소통이 잘 이뤄져야 한다는 의미다. 특히, 누구보다 당 대표는 정치철학이 있어야 하는데, 지금 우리 당의 후보들 가운데 일부는 철학이 부재한 분들이 있다. 나는 김기현 후보가 당 대표가 되는 것이 여러 면에서 당에 이득이라고 본다”고 분명한 지지 의사를 밝혔다. 

한편, 권 전 시장은 지난 1일 김기현 후보의 대구경북 특보단 임명식에 참석해 지지 의사를 나타낸 바 있다.

In that regard, the president, politicians, and administration must work together to devise special measures,” he stressed.

He said, “If it is possible, the economy, education, administration, politics, etc., which are concentrated in the metropolitan area, should be forcibly moved to the provinces. I think it would be good if public institutions set an example first.”

He also said, “I know that there are a lot of people who think the same as me. I hope the forum serves to bring these opinions together. We plan to set up specific action plans based on the opinions gathered and contribute to the realization of decentralization no matter what. To this end, in addition to the first meeting, we plan to promote full-fledged activities through a promoters' contest in March.”

Regarding running for the general election, “Nothing has been decided, such as whether to run for the general election or which region to run for. For now, I can only tell you this far.” However, he said, “If I am given a role that I can or should play for Daegu, I will not back down and work without thinking. Shouldn’t we come forward with an attitude of serving anything?”

Regarding the People’s Power National Convention, he said, “I am watching with interest. Recently, the president has been sending out a very urgent yet clear message, and it is regrettable that the messenger delivering that message does not match the national eye level.” This means that the communication between the party and the president must be good. In particular, the party leader should have a political philosophy more than anyone else, but some of our party candidates now have no philosophy. I believe that candidate Kim Ki-hyun becoming the party representative is beneficial to the party in many ways,” he expressed his clear support.

On the other hand, former Mayor Kwon attended the appointment ceremony of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk special group of Candidate Ki-Hyun Kim on the 1st and expressed his intention to support.
