11일 홍준표 대구시장은 자신의 페이스북을 통해 전광훈 목사를 “우리 당원도 아닌 입에 욕을 달고다니는 목회자”라고 표현했다.

앞서 전광훈 목사는 기자회견을 통해 "정치인은 권력을 가지므로 반드시 종교인의 감시가 필요하다"며 "나의 통제를 받아야 한다"고 주장했다. 또 "다음 돌아오는 총선에서 200석을 서포트하는 것이 목표"라고 밝혔다.

이에 홍 시장은 “(자유한국당) 황교안 대표 시절에는 180석 만들어 주겠다고 했는데 폭망했다. 김기현 대표에게는 200석 만들어 준다는 황당한 말을 했다.”고 말했다.

그러면서 김기현 대표를 겨냥해 “도대체 무슨 약점을 잡힌건가?”라며 “총선이 1년밖에 안남았는데 참 답답한 일”이라고 덧붙였다.

지속적인 홍 시장의 당 지도부 비판에 이제껏 말을 아껴오던 김기현 대표는 페이스북에 “국민의힘을 우리당 당원도 아닌 전광훈 목사와 결부시켜, 마치 공동체인 양 호도하며 악의적 공세를 취하고 있는 현상에 대해 당 대표로서 깊은 유감의 뜻을 표한다.”고 말했다.

그는 “국민의힘이 전광훈 목사와 선을 그어야 할 만큼의 그 어떠한 관계도 아님을 제가 수차례 말씀드린 바 있다”면서 “전 목사는 다른 정당을 창당하여 그 정당을 실제 대표하는 것으로 알려져 있는데, 그런 사람이 우리 당과 무슨 관계가 있다는 것이냐”고 강조했다.

홍준표 시장은 앞서도 김재원 최고위원과 김기현 대표를 향한 쓴소리를 이어왔다. 이에 일각에서는 “홍 시장이 자기 정치만 하려고 하는 것.”이라며 “김기현 대표와 홍준표 시장이 전 목사를 두고 갈등을 빚으면 결국 전 목사만 키워주는 꼴.”이라는 비판이 나오기도 했다.
