이번 채용비리 의혹은 홍 전 시장이 뉴미디어팀장을 당연면직 대상에서 지방임기제 공무원으로 전환한 뒤, 해당 직위에 특정인을 채용하도록 지시했다는 정황이 핵심이다. 

홍 전 시장은 “내가 4급 하라고 하니까, 자기가 5급이 낫다고 해서…”라고 발언한 것으로 알려졌으며, 이 과정에 응시자 11명이 참여한 공개 채용이 형식적으로 진행됐다는 의혹도 제기됐다.

대구경실련은 해당 사안이 “내정자 본인도 채용 절차 전부터 사실을 알고 있었던 것으로 보인다”며, 이미 홍 전 시장의 자백과 관련자들의 진술, 언론 보도 등을 통해 상당한 정황이 드러난 만큼, 수사에 큰 시간이 걸리지 않을 것이라고 주장했다. 

그러나 “홍 전 시장의 부인 가능성, 관련 간부 공무원들의 침묵, 수사기관의 봐주기식 태도”를 우려하며, 사건이 흐지부지 마무리될 가능성도 배제하지 않았다.

또한 대구경실련은 "국민권익위로부터 송부된 사건을 대구경찰청이 법정 기한인 60일 내에 종결한 사례가 드물다"며 "부실수사와 늑장수사에 대한 시민들의 우려가 커지고 있다"고 지적했다.

대구경실련은 이번 사안만큼은 명확한 책임 규명과 실질적인 수사 결과가 나오기를 기대하며, “홍준표 전 대구시장의 알박기 채용비리에 대한 철저한 수사를 통해 다시는 유사한 일이 반복되지 않도록 해야 한다”고 강조했다.

However, they did not rule out the possibility that the case will be closed without a trace, citing concerns about “the possibility of former Mayor Hong’s denial, the silence of related executives, and the lenient attitude of the investigative agency.”
