이어 “3월 이후 재보선 사유가 발생하면 하반기 재·보궐선거 대상이 되는데 2026년 6월 지방선거가 있는 점을 감안하면 10월 재·보선은 생략될 가능성이 크다”며 “조기대선에 출마하려는 지방자치단체장이 3월 1일 이전에 그 직에서 사퇴하지 않으면 보궐선거는 사실상 불가능하다”고 설명했다.

그러면서 “이렇게 되면 대구시정은 행정부시장이 시장직을 대행하는 대행체제로 운용될 수밖에 없다”며 “상반기 보궐선거를 치를 수 있도록 홍준표 대구시장이 3월 1일 이전에 시장직을 사퇴할 것을 제안한다”고 말했다.

홍준표 대구시장은 지난 24일 자신의 온라인 소통 플랫폼 '청년의꿈'에서 “시장직 유지해달라”는 지지자의 글에 “대선이 만약 생기면 시장직 사퇴한다”고 댓글을 남겨 눈길을 끌었다.
