민주당 대구시당은 “사표 쓰기 며칠 전 떳떳하게 부정채용을 홍보하는 홍준표는 가관이다”며 “도대체 왜 채용 절차를 밟았는지 이해가 가지 않는다”고 꼬집었다.

그러면서 “김정기 부시장은 당장 이 채용을 되돌려야한다”며 “명백하게 부정채용자를 그대로 둔다면 더 큰 곤란에 처할 수 있다는 것을 명심해야한다”고 덧붙였다.

지역의 시민단체에서도 비판의 목소리가 나왔다. 대구경제정의실천시민연합은 “자백이 모두 사실이라면 대구시의 뉴미디어팀장 채용은 관련법령을 위반한 채용비리”라며 “홍준표 대구시장이 담당공무원에게 김 모씨를 미디어팀장 채용을 지시했다면 이는 직권남용에 해당되는 범죄행위”라고 강조했다.
