한덕수를 옹립하기 위한 지도부의 공작설도 제기했다. 홍 전 시장은 앞 전날에는 “용산과 당 지도부는 김문수를 밀어 한덕수의 장애가 되는 홍준표를 떨어뜨리려는 공작을 꾸미고 있었다”고 주장하면서 “나를 지지하던 사람들은 순식간에 김문수 지지로 돌아섰고 김문수가 당원 지지 1위로 올라선 걸 2차 경선 나흘 전에야 알았다. 김문수로서는 이 음험한 공작을 역이용했고 나는 더러운 판에 있기 싫어졌다”고 주장했다. 그러면서 “무상 열차 노리고 윤석열 아바타를 자처한 한덕수는 왜 비난하지 않냐. 김문수는 너희의 공작을 역이용하면 안 되냐”고 비난했다.
