【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=국민의힘 김문수 제21대 대통령선거 후보가 선거운동 첫날인 12일 보수진영 상징적 장소인 대구 서문시장을 찾아 세 과시에 나섰다.

김 후보는 이날 오후 5시 동산상가 남편 입구(대구 중구 달성로 37)에 도착해 상인들과 시민들에게 인사를 건넸고, 이어 오후 5시 30분부터 서문시장 앞(달성로 50)에서 유세를 진행했다. 이는 공식 후보 등록 이후 첫 대구 일정이다.

앞서 대구 방문을 여러 차례 예고했지만, 단일화를 둘러싼 당내 갈등으로 일정이 미뤄졌다. 오랜 기다림 끝에 열린 이날 유세에는 태극기를 든 지지자들이 북과 꽹과리를 울리며 현장을 뜨겁게 달궜다.

연설에서 김 후보는 “대구는 제가 공부하고 자라며 울고 웃던 고향”이라며 “경북중고 시절이 그립고, 대구와 경북에 대한 기억은 늘 감동으로 남아 있다”고 말했다. 이어 “서문시장이 많이 발전했지만 여전히 어려움이 크다”며 “이런 상황을 극복하고 위대한 대한민국을 다시 만들기 위해 박정희 정신이 필요하다”고 강조했다.

그는 시민들과 함께 “하면 된다, 할 수 있다, 해보자”, “뭉치자, 싸우자, 이기자” 등의 구호를 외치며 분위기를 끌어올렸다.

민주당 이재명 후보를 겨냥한 발언도 이어졌다. 김 후보는 “저는 거짓말을 못 한다”며 “한 사람은 검사를 사칭하고, 자신을 총각이라고 소개한 도사”라고 비판했다. 이어 “거짓말 잘하는 대통령을 뽑을 것인가, 참말 잘하는 대통령을 뽑을 것인가”라고 목소리를 높였다.

이날 유세에는 권성동 의원도 함께 무대에 올라 “비 온 뒤 땅이 굳는다”며 “작은 차이, 작은 생각을 버리고 이재명을 반대하는 모든 사람들이 하나로 뭉쳐야 김문수 후보를 대통령으로 만들 수 있다”고 호소했다. 하지만 일부 시민들은 ‘사퇴하라’, ‘자격 없다’는 거센 항의를 보내며 냉담한 반응을 보였다.

보수진영의 중심인 서문시장에서 열린 이날 유세는 김 후보가 지지층 결집에 본격적으로 나섰다는 점에서 상징적인 의미를 가진다.
