김 후보는 1일 대구 국민의힘 경북도당에서 "부처를 전국에 나누는 방식은 행정 비효율만 키운다"며 "대구경북은 AI와 바이오 등 원전 기반 첨단산업에 집중해야 한다"고 입장을 전했다.

김 후보의 발언은 같은 날 조경태 의원이 내놓은 산자부 이전 공약과 정면으로 충돌하는 것으로, 대구경북 지역 발전 전략을 두고 당 내 경선 후보들 간 견해차가 뚜렷하게 갈리고 있음을 보여준다.

"해수부는 부산, 산자부는 대구 식으로 정부 부처를 전국에 나누면 결국 지자체마다 '부처 유치 경쟁'이 벌어지고 정부 운영의 일관성이 무너진다"고 일갈했다.

윤희숙 의원의 혁신안에는 강하게 반발했다. "국민의힘 의석이 107석인데 40명을 쳐내면 개헌 저지선조차 무너진다"며 "이는 혁신이 아니라 정치적 자살"이라고 비판했다. 

이어 "영남이 있었기에 산업화, 민주화가 가능했다"며 "영남은 자민련이 아니라 대한민국을 지켜낸 최후의 방파제"라고 목소리를 높였다.

김 후보는 "국민의힘이 무너지면 대한민국 민주주의도 무너진다"며 "보수 정당이 중심을 잡고 미래 세대를 위한 국가 경쟁력을 회복해야 한다"고 강조했다.

He said, "With the concentration of nuclear power plants in Uljin and Gyeongju, it's an ideal location for attracting AI data centers, secondary battery industries, and research institutes that consume a lot of electricity."
