【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=국민의힘 김문수 대통령 후보가 5·18 광주민주묘지를 참배하며 눈물을 보인 가운데, 과거 광주민주화운동을 ‘광주사태’로 지칭한 사실이 알려지며 논란이 일고 있다. 동시에 4년 중임제 개헌을 정식으로 제안한 그의 발언이 과거 자신의 입장과 정면으로 배치된다는 지적도 나왔다.

조국혁신당 차규근 의원은 20일 발표한 자료를 통해 김 후보가 2020년 발간한 책 '10월 혁명'에 실린 2019년 칼럼에서 광주민주화운동을 ‘광주사태’라고 표현했다고 밝혔다.

문제가 된 표현은 책 219쪽에 수록된 ‘김문수 TV 방송 중’ 칼럼이다. 이 칼럼에서 김 후보는 “1980년 광주사태를 겪으며”, “12.12 쿠데타와 광주사태, 그리고 민주화의 좌절”이라는 표현을 사용한 것으로 확인됐다. 

이에 대해 차규근 의원은 “5·18 광주는 ‘광주사태’가 아닌 ‘광주민주화운동’”이라며 “김문수 후보는 묘역에서 눈물을 흘리기 전에 과거 발언에 대한 사과부터 했어야 한다”고 비판했다.

이와 함께 김 후보의 ‘4년 중임제 개헌’ 제안도 도마 위에 올랐다. 김 후보는 5월 18일 4년 중임제 개헌을 정식 공약으로 제안했지만, 과거에는 이를 강하게 반대했던 것으로 나타났다.

차 의원은 김 후보가 2012년 출간한 '김문수는 말한다'에서 “한국의 4년 중임제는 늘 삼선 개헌과 유신을 불러왔고, 불행한 권력 연장으로 비참한 최후를 맞이하게 했다”고 말한 내용을 지적했다. 당시 김 후보는 “우리 헌법은 잘돼 있다”며 5년 단임제의 정당성을 강조한 바 있다.

이에 대해 차 의원은 “김문수 후보는 4년 중임제가 불행한 권력 연장이라고 해놓고, 대통령이 되겠다고 나선 지금은 입장을 바꿨다”며 “국민 앞에 입장 변화의 이유를 분명히 밝혀야 한다”고 요구했다.

김 후보는 현재까지 이와 관련한 직접적인 해명이나 입장 표명을 내놓지 않은 상태다.

In addition, Candidate Kim’s proposal for a ‘4-year term constitutional amendment’ was also put on the chopping block. Candidate Kim formally proposed a 4-year term constitutional amendment as a campaign promise on May 18, but it was revealed that he had strongly opposed it in the past.

Rep. Cha pointed out that Candidate Kim’s 2012 publication ‘Kim Moon-soo Speaks’ stated, “Korea’s 4-year term constitutional amendment has always led to a third-term constitutional amendment and Yushin, and has led to a miserable end due to the unfortunate extension of power.” At the time, Candidate Kim emphasized the legitimacy of the 5-year single-term constitutional amendment, saying, “Our constitution is good.”

Regarding this, Rep. Cha said, “Candidate Kim Moon-soo said that the four-year term is an unfortunate extension of power, but now that he has declared that he will become president, he has changed his position,” and demanded, “He must clearly state the reason for his change of position to the public.” Candidate Kim has not yet made a direct explanation or expressed his position on this matter.
