3일 오전 세종에서 일정을 마친 원 후보는 오후부터 대구에서 활동을 펼쳤다.

그는 이날 대구 동구갑, 북구갑, 중구‧남구, 서구, 수성구갑, 수성구을 당원 간담회에 참석한 뒤 서문시장에서 자신의 후원회장을 맡은 상인 부부와 당심 다지기에 몰두하고 저녁에는 치맥 페스티벌을 찾아 시민들을 만나는 등 바쁜 일정을 소화했다. 

원 후보는 대구 동구갑 당원 간담회에서 "우리는 무지막지한 이재명과 조국에 대해서 똘똘 뭉쳐서 끝까지 싸워야 된다"며 "당도 정신 차려야 되고 대통령도 바뀌어야 된다"고 말했다.

이와 함께 한동훈 후보에 대해 “우리 당의 매우 소중한 보배이자 재목이다”라며 “그러나 위로 자라려면 땅속, 우리 당 안에서 먼저 성장을 해야 한다”고 말했다. 이어 “우리 당이 아직 어려운 상황에서 당 대표를 맡기에는 시기상조”라며 “경쟁자가 아니라 정치 선배로 하는 말”이라고 강조하며 견제하는 모습을 보이기도 했다.

한편 이날 원희룡 후보 이외에도 나경원·윤상현 후보가 대구를 찾아 당심 잡기에 박차를 가했다. 한동훈 후보는 서울에 머무르며 서울지역 구청장협의회 연구모임에 참석하고 국민의힘 실버세대위원회 운영위원들과 여의도에서 오찬을 진행했다.
