19일 대구를 방문한 국민의힘 원희룡 전 제주지사는 제주도당 당협위원장 선임과 과정에 개입했다는 의혹과 윤석열 캠프측으로부터 당권 제안을 받았다는 소문에 대하여 전면 부인했다.

그는 19일 국민의힘 시도당 출입기자 간담회에서 기자들의 질문에 “제가 지금 후보 등록 전에 전국을 다니기도 바쁜데 제주도에 관여해봤자 얼마나 하겠느냐”며 “자신 있게 말씀드리는데 그런 일은 일절 없다”고 일축했다.

윤 캠프 제안설에 대해서는 “윤석열은 정책은 안 만들고 계파만 만들고 있다고 그동안  제가 계속 비판을 해왔고, (내가 대통령이 되면) 윤석열 법무부장관으로 쓰려고 하는 생각을 가지고 있었다”고 강조하고 “집권능력이 되어 있는지, 앞으로도 누구보다 운 전 총장에 대한 비판과 철저한 검증에 나설 것”이라며 "제안설은 터무니 없다"고 못 박았다. 그러면서 “윤 전 총장이 준비가) 안되어 있다면 윤은 무릎 꿇고 (내게) 협조해야 될 것”이라고 거듭 강조했다.
