3일 오전 인천에서 일정을 시작한 나 후보는 오후 대구를 찾아 수성갑, 달성군 당원들을 만났다.

수성갑 당원 간담회를 찾은 나 후보는 “공군 조종사셨던 아버지께서 대구 공군기지에 복무하시던 때에 제가 어머니 뱃속에 있었다"라며 자신을 ‘모태 TK’라고 표현했다.

그는 자신이 원내라는 점을 내세워 “국민의힘은 지금 108석을 가지고 야무지게 싸워야 하기 때문에 의회에서 잘 싸워본 사람이 할 수 있겠더라”며 “의회를 기반으로 투쟁을 해본 사람, 본회의장에 들어갈 수 있는 당 대표가 필요한 때”라고 말했다.

또한 “대통령에게 너무 각을 세운 사람은 신뢰관계가 없고, 대통령을 팔아 출마한 사람은 너무 수직적인 관계일 것”이라며 “대통령에게 직언할 수 있는 후보는 나경원밖에 없을 것”이라는 발언으로 원희룡 후보와 한동훈 후보에 대한 견제를 이어갔다.

당초 나경원 후보는 이날 김재원 최고위원 후보와 함께 대구 서문시장에서 시민들을 만날 예정이었다. 그러나 국회 일정으로 인해 서문시장 방문은 취소됐다.

해당 일정은 대구‧경북 출신인 김재원 최고위원과 협력 관계임을 강조해 국민의힘 책임당원이 40%가 몰려있는 TK의 민심을 얻고자 했던 전략으로 풀이된다.

한편 이날 나경원 후보 이외에도 원희룡·윤상현 후보가 대구를 찾아 당심 잡기에 박차를 가했다. 한동훈 후보는 서울에 머무르며 서울지역 구청장협의회 연구모임에 참석하고 국민의힘 실버세대위원회 운영위원들과 여의도에서 오찬을 진행했다.
