14일 김재원 예비후보 선거사무소를 찾은 김 전 협회장은 “36년간 실물 경제 전문가의 역량으로 침체된 대구경제를 회생시키고 무너진 대구의 품격과 자존심을 회복하고대구 청년들에게 희망과 활력을 불어넣고자 했으나 기성 정치인의 장벽을 뛰어넘지 못하고 걸림돌인 낮은 인지도로 인해 중도에 멈추게 되었다.”며 사퇴 입장을 전했다.

그러면서 그는 "그간 제가 대구시 발전을 위해 준비했던 선거 공약들을 가장 잘 이뤄내 줄 수 있는 적임자는 김재원 후보라고 생각한다.”면서 지지 이유를 밝혔다.
