군공항(K-2) 이전 문제와 관련해서는 중앙정부의 역할을 거듭 촉구했다. "기부대 양여 방식에는 분명히 한계가 있다. 지자체 보고 알아서 옮기라는 건 사실상 갑질이나 다름없다"고 지적하면서, 본인의 신공항 이전법 발의 경험을 들어 국비 지원과 법적 해결을 약속했다.

낙동강 취수원 문제에 대해서도 "부처 간 협업이 제대로 이뤄지지 않아 갈등이 커지고 있다"며, 환경부와 국토부, 해수부 등 관계 부처가 함께 책임지는 구조로 중앙정부가 적극 나서 조정해야 한다고 덧붙였다.

주 부의장은 "게임의 룰을 바꾸지 않으면 대한민국의 지방은 결국 사라질 수밖에 없다. 통합 추진 뒤 중앙정부가 권한과 예산을 지방에 넘겨줄 때 비로소 지방이 다시 살아날 수 있다"고 거듭 강조했다.

한편, 정치권 일각에선 주 부의장의 이날 발언을 단기 사업 공약보다는 대구시장 선거를 앞두고 구조적인 해법을 내세운 전략으로 해석하고 있다.
