이 전 부시장은 이날 국민의 힘 대구시당에서 기자회견을 열고 “대구시와 중앙정부에서의 30여 년간 공직 생활을 통한 행정전문가로서, MICE 산업의 선도기업인 ㈜EXCO의 최고경영자로서 엑스코 창립 이래 최고 경영 성과를 얻어낸 경험을 바탕으로 신공항과 금호강의 중심도시 북구의 르네상스 시대를 열겠다”고 밝혔다.

또한 “대구에서만 행정부시장에 이르기까지 20년간 공직 생활을 하면서 누구보다 대구시와 북구 현안에 대해 가장 밝고 대구시, 북구청, 중앙정부와의 협력을 이끌어 낼 수 있는 북구을 발전의 최적임자라고 자부한다”고 지지를 당부했다.

이 예비후보는 서울대학교 행정학 석사로 제35회 행정고시 합격, 대구광역시 행정부시장을 역임했으며, 행정안전부 지방재정 정책관, 제8대 대구광역시장직 인수위원장 등 행정과 재정 전문가로 통한다. 지난 20대 대통령선거에서는 국민의힘 정책본부 지방분권정책위원회 위원장으로 활동했으며, ㈜엑스코 대표이사 사장을 역임하면서 역대 최고 경영실적을 달성하는 등 경영 전문가로 평가받고 있다.
