김승수 의원은 지난 15일 국회 문화체육관광위원회 국정감사에서 “20년만에 한국에서 열리는 APEC 경주 정상회의 개최 장소가 늦게 결정됐다”며 “준비기간이 짧아 자칫 작년 잼버리때와 같은 사태가 발생할까 우려된다”고 말했다.

그는 “우리나라의 관광 명소인 경주에서 열리는 만큼 범부처뿐만 아니라 문체부와 관광공사에서도 적극적으로 노력해야 한다”며 “최근의 관광트렌드에 맞춘 새로운 관광코스 개발이 절실하다”고 설명했다.

이어 “관광공사에서 관광프로그램을 3개 코스를 개발해 지원하는 정도밖에 준비가 안 돼 있다”며 “이렇게 해가지고는 지난 잼버리처럼 굉장히 많은 손님들을 초대해놓고 마이너스가 되는 우사를 당할 수 있다”고 말했다.

그러면서 “보문단지를 전체적으로 리모델링한다는 생각을 가지고 경주와 경북권, 더 나아가서는 대한민국의 관광 인프라에 대해 중점적으로 점검하는 조치를 해야 한다”고 강조했다. 

이에 서영충 한국관광공사 사장 직무대행은 “관광공사 직원을 파견할 예정이며 이후 유기적으로 연결하고 자체적으로 준비할 부분들을 정리하도록 하겠다”며 “(관광공사가) 할 수 있는 부분을 최대한 찾아서 주무부처인 문체부와 협의해서 준비하도록 하겠다”고 답했다.
