【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=국민의힘 김승수 의원(대구북구을)이 “세종학당 교재에 독도가 빠져있는 우리나라 지도가 실려 있다”며 지적에 나섰다.

세종학당은 문화체육관광부 산하 공공기관으로 외국인들과 한국어와 한국문화로 소통하고 교류하기 위해 설립된 기관이다.

올해 6월 기준 88개국 256개소가 운영 중이며 2027년까지 300개소까지 늘릴 계획이다. 2023년 세종학당 수강생 수는 총 127,894명으로 전년 대비 8.7%가 증가했다.

이렇듯 우리나라에 관심을 가지는 외국인들이 지속적으로 늘어나고 있는 가운데 세종학당 한국어 교재에 독도가 빠진 지도가 실려 있어 잘못된 정보와 역사 왜곡의 우려가 이어진다.

김승수 의원은 “우리나라에 대해 관심을 가진 외국인들이 가장 먼저 접하는 교재가 세종학당 한국어 교재”라며 “외국인들에게 정확한 정보를 전달하는 것이 중요하다”고 설명했다.

그러면서 “이웃 국가인 일본과 중국의 역사 관련 억지 주장과 왜곡이 점점 거세지고 있다”며 “정부 부처와 공공기관이 이를 바로잡는데 앞장서야 한다”고 강조했다.

People Power Party lawmaker Kim Seung-soo (Daegu Buk-gu) pointed out, “There is a map of our country that does not include Dokdo in the Sejong Institute textbook.”

Sejong Institute is a public institution under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, established to communicate and exchange with foreigners through Korean language and culture.

As of June of this year, 256 locations in 88 countries are in operation, and the plan is to increase the number to 300 by 2027. The total number of Sejong Institute students in 2023 was 127,894, an 8.7% increase from the previous year.

As the number of foreigners interested in our country continues to increase, concerns about incorrect information and historical distortion continue due to the map that does not include Dokdo in the Sejong Institute Korean language textbook.

Rep. Kim Seung-soo explained, “The first textbook that foreigners interested in our country encounter is the Sejong Institute Korean language textbook,” and “It is important to convey accurate information to foreigners.”

He also emphasized that “neighboring countries Japan and China are increasingly making false claims and distortions regarding history,” and that “government ministries and public institutions should take the lead in correcting this.”
