【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=경북 포항 남구 송도동과 북구 항구동을 연결하는 ‘해오름대교’가 31일 모습을 드러냈다. 경북도에서 처음으로 건설된 해상 사장교로, 포항 도심 동서축 교통 흐름 개선의 핵심 인프라로 평가된다.

해오름대교는 총연장 1.36㎞, 폭 20.25m 규모로 조성됐다. 이 가운데 395m 구간이 해상 교량이다. 높이 46m 주탑에서 내려온 케이블이 상판을 지탱하는 사장교 형식으로, 교량 상부에는 일출과 일몰을 동시에 감상할 수 있는 전망대도 설치됐다.

이번 사업은 2012년 국도·국지도 5개년 계획에 반영된 이후 2016년 국토교통부와 총사업비 협의를 거쳐 본격 추진됐다. 2021년 6월 착공해 약 5년간 공사를 진행했으며, 총사업비 748억9400만 원이 투입됐다.

개통에 앞서 열린 교량 걷기 행사에는 시민들이 대거 참여했다. 차량 통행이 통제된 상태에서 참가자들은 차도를 따라 약 1.8㎞ 구간을 20분가량 걸으며 바다 위 교량을 체험했다. 다리 아래를 내려다보며 발걸음을 멈추는 시민들의 모습도 눈에 띄었다.

포항시는 해오름대교 개통으로 송도동과 항구동 간 이동 시간이 기존 약 10분에서 3분 내외로 단축될 것으로 보고 있다.

장상길 포항부시장은 “해오름대교는 교통 기능을 넘어 송도해수욕장과 영일대해수욕장을 잇는 관광 연결축 역할도 하게 될 것”이라고 밝혔다.

해오름대교는 임시 개통 상태로, 차량 통행은 2월 2일 오후 2시부터 가능하다. 보행로는 폭 2.8~3m, 길이 약 295m 규모로 계획돼 있으며 계단과 엘리베이터를 통해 접근하도록 설계됐다. 보행로는 공사가 완료된 뒤 정식 개통 시 별도로 개방될 예정이다.

The pedestrian walkway is planned to be 2.8 to 3 meters wide and approximately 295 meters long, and is designed to be accessible via stairs and an elevator.
