올해로 20주년을 맞는 문경사과축제는 ‘새롭게 도약하는 문경사과의 미래’를 주제로, 문경의 대표 농산물인 감홍사과의 숙기에 맞춰 열려 방문객들에게 가장 맛있는 시기의 문경사과를 선보일 예정이다.

감홍사과는 과실 표면에 검은 반점이 생기는 ‘고두병’ 피해로 타 지역에서는 재배가 어려운 품종이지만, 문경은 칼슘비료 활용 재배법과 동록 방지기술을 도입해 피해를 줄이고 대량 생산에 성공했다. 현재 문경은 전국 감홍사과 재배면적(800ha)의 65%인 520ha를 차지하며 주산지로 자리매김하고 있다.

평균 무게 350g, 당도 16.5브릭스(Brix)에 달하는 문경감홍사과는 달콤하고 산미가 적은 것이 특징으로, ‘한 번 먹으면 잊을 수 없는 사과’라는 의미에서 ‘인생감홍’이라는 별칭으로 불린다.

축제장에서는 17농가의 판매장이 운영되며, 모든 부스에서 무료 시식이 가능하다. 농가별로 맛의 개성이 달라, 방문객들은 시식 후 원하는 농가의 사과를 구매할 수 있다. 또한 온라인 직거래관(19농가 참여)을 통해서도 문경사과를 구매할 수 있으며, 시기별로 시나노골드와 부사 품종도 함께 판매된다.

체험행사도 다채롭다. 13개 농가가 참여하는 사과따기 체험은 무료로 진행되며, 25일에는 문경새재 잔디공원 ‘일곱난쟁이 사과밭’에서 1인당 2개씩 무료로 수확할 수 있는 특별 체험이 열린다. 이외에도 사과나눔 게릴라 이벤트, 24일 애플데이, 폐막식 이후 사과 무료 나눔행사 등이 준비돼 있다.
