가장 먼저 변화한 것은 도시의 인프라입니다. 회의장과 미디어센터, 숙박시설 등은 국제행사에 걸맞게 새롭게 단장했습니다. 보문단지와 시가지 주요 도로·보행로는 정비를 통해 한층 쾌적해졌고, 야간경관 개선으로 경주의 밤은 더욱 밝고 품격 있는 분위기를 갖추게 됐습니다. 북천 일대는 시민과 관광객이 함께 머무는 생태문화공간으로 재탄생했습니다.

이처럼 도시의 길과 다리, 공원과 하천이 유기적으로 연결되면서 경주는 더 편리하고 머물고 싶은 도시로 거듭났습니다.

교통여건도 한층 나아졌습니다. 주요 교차로와 접근도로는 확장공사를 통해 정체를 줄였고, 박물관과 동궁과 월지 인근에는 새 주차장이 조성돼 관광객의 편의가 크게 향상됐습니다. 보문단지 내 숙박시설과 편의공간도 개선돼, 세계 각국의 정상과 대표단을 맞이할 준비를 모두 마쳤습니다. 포항경주공항의 국제선 부정기편 운항이 추진되면서, 경주의 하늘길 또한 열리게 됐습니다.

황리단길과 중심상가 상인들은 외국인 관광객을 위해 화장실을 개방했고, 택시 기사들은 깨끗한 복장에 외국어 통역 앱을 설치해 손님맞이에 앞장서고 있습니다.

이런 작은 변화들이 모여 도시의 이미지를 바꾸고, 경주의 품격을 만들어내고 있습니다.
