이번 제도 개편은 중장년층의 삶의 질을 저하시키는 호흡기 질환을 조기에 발견하고, 심뇌혈관 질환의 주요 원인이 되는 만성질환에 대한 사후 관리를 강화하는 데 초점을 맞췄다.

특히 만성폐쇄성폐질환은 주요 호흡기 만성질환임에도 불구하고 유병률이 약 12%에 달하는 반면, 질환 인지도는 2.3%에 불과한 실정이다. 이에 따라 2026년부터 만 56세와 66세 남녀 전원을 대상으로 폐기능 검사가 시행된다.

검사의 정확도를 높이기 위해 수검자는 검사 전 4시간 금주와 1시간 금연을 준수해야 하며, 검사 직전 30분 동안은 호흡에 영향을 줄 수 있는 격렬한 운동을 피해야 한다. 검사 결과 이상 소견이 확인된 경우에는 금연 서비스 등 사후관리 체계와 연계해 중증 질환으로의 진행을 예방할 계획이다.

만성질환 예방을 위한 국가 지원도 확대된다. 기존에는 고혈압과 당뇨병 유소견자에 한해 제공되던 확진 검사 비용 지원(진료비 본인부담금 면제)이 2026년부터는 이상지질혈증까지 확대된다. 이에 따라 건강검진에서 고지혈증 소견을 받은 수검자는 병·의원에서 재검사를 받을 때 비용 부담 없이 확진 검사를 받을 수 있어, 뇌졸중과 심근경색의 주요 원인인 이상지질혈증을 보다 적극적으로 관리할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

한국건강관리협회 대구지부 내과 전문의 양창헌 원장은 “2026년 국가건강검진제도는 폐 건강과 만성질환 관리라는 현대인의 핵심 건강 이슈를 정조준한 정책”이라며 “한국건강관리협회 대구지부는 신설된 폐기능 검사를 위해 최신 장비 도입을 완료했으며, 이상지질혈증 등 만성질환 유소견자들이 비용 부담 없이 확진 검사와 치료로 연계될 수 있도록 원스톱 진료 시스템을 운영하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Accordingly, examinees diagnosed with hyperlipidemia during a health checkup will be able to receive confirmatory testing at a hospital or clinic free of charge when retesting. Dr. Yang Chang-heon, an internal medicine specialist at the Daegu branch of the Korea Health Management Association, said, “The 2026 National Health Screening System is a policy that targets the core health issues of modern people, such as lung health and chronic disease management.” He added, “The Daegu branch of the Korea Health Management Association has completed the introduction of the latest equipment for the newly established pulmonary function test, and we will operate a one-stop treatment system so that patients with chronic diseases such as dyslipidemia can receive confirmatory testing and treatment without financial burden.”
