【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=박용선 포항시장 출마예정자(현 경북도의원)가 4일 포항시청 브리핑룸에서 기자회견을 열고 ‘국가첨단전략소재산업 특화단지 지정’을 핵심 공약으로 제시했다.

박 예정자는 이날 “포항의 다음 100년 먹거리는 신소재 산업”이라며 “철강 중심 산업 구조를 넘어 그래핀을 선도 소재로 한 국가첨단전략소재 산업 특화단지 지정을 추진하겠다”고 밝혔다.

그는 “연구에 머무는 도시가 아니라 연구 성과가 사업화와 실증을 거쳐 시장으로 이어지는 구조를 만들겠다”며 신소재 R&D, 사업화, 실증 인프라를 포항에 집적하겠다는 구상을 내놓았다.

박 예정자는 포항의 산업 구조에 대해 “철강 경기 변동에 따라 도시 전체가 영향을 받는 취약성이 반복돼 왔다”며 “포항은 위기를 관리하는 도시에 머물 것인지, 다음 성장을 준비하는 도시로 갈 것인지 선택의 기로에 서 있다”고 말했다.

그래핀을 핵심 전략 소재로 제시한 이유에 대해서는 “그래핀은 강도, 전기·열 전도성, 유연성을 동시에 갖춘 차세대 소재로, 이미 글로벌 상용화 경쟁이 본격화되고 있다”고 설명했다.

이어 “그래핀은 가전, 이차전지, 수소연료전지, 반도체·디스플레이 등 전방 산업 파급력이 크다”며 “특화단지로 지정되면 소재부터 응용까지 이어지는 산업 사슬을 포항에서 완성할 수 있다”고 밝혔다.

박 예정자는 특화단지 추진의 기반으로 ▲포스코·포스텍·RIST·가속기연구소 등 산학연 인프라 ▲항만 중심 물류 기반 ▲소재 실증 특화 도시로의 확장 가능성을 제시했다.

그는 “포항은 특화단지 지정 시 바로 실행 단계로 들어갈 수 있는 준비된 도시”라며 “연구, 제조, 물류를 동시에 갖춘 것이 가장 큰 경쟁력”이라고 강조했다.

또한 그래핀을 시작으로 다양한 신소재 기업을 추가 유치해 클러스터를 확대하겠다는 계획도 밝혔다. 이를 위해 R&D, 시제품 제작, 실증, 양산, 수요처 연계를 강화하고 품질·표준·검증 역량을 갖춘 사업화 거점을 구축하겠다고 설명했다.

박 예정자는 특화단지 조성 시 기대 효과로 “전후방 30여 개 기업 유치와 1만 명 내외 일자리 창출”을 제시하며 “직접 고용뿐 아니라 협력사와 서비스업까지 연쇄적인 고용 확대가 가능하다”고 말했다.

아울러 “청년과 여성이 포항에서 일하고 성장할 수 있는 산업 구조를 만들겠다”며 “‘내 일이 있는 포항, 내일이 있는 포항’이라는 슬로건을 성과로 증명하겠다”고 밝혔다.

박 예정자는 “이번 지방선거는 포항의 산업 미래를 결정하는 선거”라며 “포항을 다음 성장을 준비하는 도시로 바꾸고, 100년 먹거리 산업을 반드시 세우겠다”고 말했다.

He emphasized, "Pohang is a city prepared to immediately enter the implementation phase once designated as a specialized complex," adding, "Our greatest competitive edge lies in our simultaneous capabilities in research, manufacturing, and logistics."

He also announced plans to expand the cluster by attracting additional companies in new materials, starting with graphene. To achieve this, he explained, he will strengthen R&D, prototype production, demonstration, mass production, and demand-side connections, and establish a commercialization hub equipped with quality, standards, and verification capabilities.

Park, the prospective candidate, outlined the expected benefits of the specialized complex, stating, "Attracting around 30 forward and backward companies and creating around 10,000 jobs." He added, "Not only will direct employment be created, but a cascading increase in employment will also be possible, extending to partner companies and service industries."

He also stated, "We will create an industrial structure that enables young people and women to work and grow in Pohang. We will demonstrate our slogan, 'Pohang, where my job is, Pohang, where tomorrow is,' through our achievements."
