김 예비후보는 10일 포항시청 브리핑룸에서 기자회견을 열고 “다가오는 지방선거 포항시장 예비후보직을 내려놓기로 결단했다”며 “제가 이루지 못한 포항을 위한 꿈을 이제 박용선 예비후보를 통해 이루고자 한다”고 밝혔다.

김 예비후보는 “1995년 30대의 나이에 도의원에 당선된 이후 지난 30여 년 동안 포항의 발전과 시민의 행복을 위해 힘써왔다”며 “어려움과 시련도 있었지만 포항을 향한 마음만큼은 흔들린 적이 없었다”고 말했다.

이어 “비록 시장 예비후보직은 내려놓지만 포항과 시민을 향한 마음은 변함없다”며 “이제는 정치인이 아닌 시민의 한 사람으로서 포항의 미래를 응원하고 힘을 보태겠다”고 밝혔다.

이에 대해 박용선 예비후보는 “김순견 후보의 고뇌에 찬 결단에 깊이 감사드린다”며 “후보의 결단과 시민들의 기대를 무겁게 받아들이고 포항의 새로운 미래를 만드는 데 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
