포항지역발전협의회는 북구 구 도심지역인 대흥동 717-1번지에 대지 700㎡에 지상 4층 연면적 352평의 다문화 회관을 건립키로 했다고 13일 밝혔다.

포발협이 이번에 건립할 다문화 회관은 △ 다문화가족 및 북한이탈주민 생활의식 적응교육장 △ 지역발전을 위한 시민의견 수렴 및 활동 공간 제공 △ 지역발전을 위한 각종 포럼, 세미나 장소 △ 모든 시민 대상 교양프로그램운영 및 시민강좌 교실로 무료 개방 △ 청소년 지도를 위한 효실천 선도교육장 △ 지역 문화예술인의 문화예술 전시 공간으로 활용될 계획이다.

포발협 이대공 회관건립추진위원장은 “포발협 회관을 건립해 다문화 가족 및 북한 이탈주민 생활의식 적응교육장과 지역발전을 위한 시민의견 수렴 및 활동 공간으로 활용함으로써 쇠퇴하고 있는 구 도심지역의 재생에 활력을 불어 넣고자 추진하게 됐다”고 말했다.

한편, 포항지역발전협의회는 회관건립 소요 예산 28억원을 자체 예산을 확보해 추진한다는 계획이다.
