【브레이크뉴스 경주】박영재 기자=한국원자력연구원(원장 박원석)은 9일 개막을 시작으로 11일까지 경주 화백컨벤션센터(HICO)에서 제24회 국제 가속기 및 빔이용 컨퍼런스(ICABU: International Conference on Accelerators and Beam Utilizations)를 개최한다고 9일 밝혔다.

양성자, 방사광, 중이온 등 3대 가속기 분야의 국내․외 전문가들이 한자리에 모이는 ICABU 행사는 매년 국내 3대 대형 가속기 기관인 한국원자력연구원 양성자과학연구단, 포항가속기연구소, 기초과학연구원 중이온가속기연구소 및 한국핵융합․가속기기술진흥협회에서 공동 주관하는 행사다.

국내·외 가속기 관련 대학, 연구기관 및 산업체 연구소 등 59개 기관에서 200여명이 참여한 이번 행사는 한국기초과학지원연구원(KBSI) 주관으로 추진 중인 오창 방사광가속기 구축 추진현황을 다루는 오프닝 세션을 시작으로 가속장치, 빔 이용, 양성자 빔 이용의 총 3개 분야 13개 세션으로 구성되며, 국내․외 대형 가속기 관련 이슈, 현황 및 기술발전 동향에 대한 폭넓은 지식과 최신정보를 심도 깊게 논의한다.

 또한 Stefan Facsko(독일 헬름홀츠젠트룸 드레스텐로젠도르프 연구소: HZDR), Bjoern Keune(독일 RI Research Instruments), Gao-Yu Hsiung(대만 NSRRC), Nigel Orr(프랑스 LPC-Caen) 등 5개국에서 초청한 가속기 및 빔이용 분야 전문가를 비롯해 다수의 국내외 전문가가 참가하여 총 160편의 논문을 발표할 예정이다. 발표된 논문은 심사를 거쳐 한국물리학회지(JKPS: Journal of Korea Physical Society)의 특별호에 게재된다.

한편 전시장에서는 가속기 연구기관 및 한국핵융합․가속기기술진흥협회 홍보부스를 운영하여 가속기 기관들의 발전현황을 파악할 수 있으며 가속장치 및 응용분야 관련 산업체 전시부스도 운영된다.

또한, 학회 참가자들인 산업체, 대학원생과 연구원들의 포스터 발표 시간을 가져 연구분야를 교류할 수 있는 자리를 마련했다.

양성자과학연구단 이재상 단장은 “이번 컨퍼런스는 국내․외 저명한 가속기 및 빔이용 전문가와 지식교류를 통한 최신 동향 파악은 물론 첨단과학기술분야의 핵심기술 개발을 견인하기 위한 가속기 분야의 발전 방향을 모색하는 자리였으며, 앞으로도 지속적인 교류를 통해 전세계의 가속기 분야의 도약적인 발전을 기대해본다” 고 밝혔다.

 Atomic Energy Research Institute, International Accelerator and Beam Utilization Conference

The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (President Won-Seok Park) announced that the 24th International Conference on Accelerators and Beam Utilizations (ICABU) will be held at HICO, Gyeongju, starting on the 9th and ending on the 11th.

 The ICABU event, where domestic and foreign experts in the three major accelerator fields such as proton, radiant light, and heavy ion, gather at one place every year, is held every year at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute's Proton Science Research Center, the Pohang Accelerator Research Center, the Center for Basic Science Heavy Ion Accelerator Research Center, and the Korea Nuclear Fusion & Energy Research Institute. This event is co-hosted by the Accelerator Technology Promotion Association.

  About 200 people from 59 institutions, including domestic and foreign accelerator-related universities, research institutes and industrial research institutes, took part in this event, which started with an opening session covering the current status of the Ochang radiation accelerator construction, which is being promoted by the Korea Basic Science Institute (KBSI). It consists of 13 sessions in three areas: device, beam use, and proton beam use. Broad knowledge and latest information on domestic and foreign large accelerator-related issues, current status, and technology development trends are discussed in depth.

 Accelerators invited by 5 countries including Stefan Facsko (Institute Dresten-Rosendorf, Helmholtzzentrum, Germany: HZDR), Bjoern Keune (RI Research Instruments, Germany), Gao-Yu Hsiung (NSRRC, Taiwan), and Nigel Orr (LPC-Caen, France) and a number of domestic and foreign experts, including experts in the field of beam use, will participate and present a total of 160 papers. Published papers are reviewed and published in a special issue of the Journal of Korea Physical Society (JKPS).

 Meanwhile, in the exhibition hall, the accelerator research institute and the Korea Nuclear Fusion and Accelerator Technology Promotion Association's publicity booth are operated to check the development status of accelerator institutions, and exhibition booths for accelerators and application fields are also operated.

In addition, a poster presentation time was held by industry participants, graduate students, and researchers, which were participants in the conference, providing an opportunity to exchange research fields.

Lee Jae-sang, head of the Proton Science Research Center, said, “The 24th International Accelerator and Beam Use Conference was held to identify the latest trends through knowledge exchange with renowned accelerator and beam experts at home and abroad, as well as to lead the development of core technologies in the field of advanced science and technology.
