이 제도는 정부의 상위 법령 개정에 따른 것으로, 전국에서 동시에 시행된다. 식품의약품안전처는 지난달 ‘식품위생법 시행규칙’을 개정·공포했으며, 해당 규정은 다음 달 1일부터 적용된다.

적용 대상은 일반음식점과 휴게음식점, 제과점 등 식품접객업소이며, 출입이 허용되는 동물은 개와 고양이로 제한된다.

반려동물 동반 출입은 관련 요건을 충족한 업소에 한해 가능하고, 동반 운영을 원하지 않는 음식점은 기존과 동일하게 반려동물 출입을 제한할 수 있다.

반려동물 동반을 허용하는 음식점은 외부 출입문에 안내 표지판을 부착해야 하며, 이용객은 이를 통해 출입 여부를 선택할 수 있다.

또 반려동물은 조리장이나 식재료 보관창고 등 식품취급시설 출입이 제한되며, 케이지 사용이나 전용 의자 이용 등 위생·안전 기준을 준수해야 한다.

경주시 관계자는 "법 개정 취지에 맞춰 관련 기준을 적극 안내하고, 제도 시행 이후 현장 점검을 통해 안정적인 운영을 도모할 방침"이라고 말했다.
