이날 행사에는 김장호 구미시장을 비롯해 신익현 대표이사, 양금희 경상북도 경제부지사, 박교상 구미시의회 의장과 방위사업청, 해군, 국방과학연구소, 국방기술품질원, 협력업체 관계자 등 100여 명이 참석해 준공을 축하했다.

함대공유도탄-Ⅱ는 차세대 한국형 구축함 KDDX에 탑재되는 대공방어 유도무기 체계로, 적 항공기와 순항유도탄 위협으로부터 아군 함정의 생존성을 보장하는 핵심 전력이다.

이번에 준공된 조립·점검장은 체계개발과 향후 양산 물량에 안정적으로 대응할 수 있는 설비를 갖췄다. 이를 통해 신규 일자리 창출과 지역 협력업체 동반성장 등 구미시 방위산업 생태계 경쟁력 강화에 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 특히 국산화를 추진해 온 CIWS-Ⅱ 사업과 함께 함정 방공 전력의 핵심 체계를 지역 내에서 종합 생산·지원할 수 있는 기반을 완성했다는 점에서 의미가 크다.

이 같은 투자 성과는 구미시의 선제적 행정 지원이 뒷받침됐다는 평가다. 시는 사업부지 일부가 하천구역으로 지정돼 확장에 제약이 따르던 문제를 해결하기 위해 관련 절차를 신속히 추진, 용도 변경을 완료했다. 아울러 자연녹지 용도변경과 접근 도로 개선 등 인프라 지원도 병행해 기업의 애로사항 해소에 나섰다.

구미시는 제도적·입지적 장애요인을 선제적으로 해소하며 투자 실행력을 높여왔고, LIG넥스원은 이를 기반으로 대규모 투자를 안정적으로 확대하고 있다. 이는 구미시가 방위산업 전반을 아우르는 종합 생산기지로 자리매김하는 동력으로 작용하고 있다.

The Fleet-to-Air Missile-II is an air defense guided weapon system mounted on the next-generation Korean destroyer, the KDDX. It is a key asset that ensures the survivability of friendly ships against threats from enemy aircraft and cruise missiles.

The newly completed assembly and inspection facility is equipped to support system development and future mass production volumes. This is expected to contribute to the strengthening of the competitiveness of Gumi's defense industry ecosystem, creating new jobs and fostering shared growth with local partners. This is particularly significant because, alongside the CIWS-II project, which has been pursuing domestic production, it establishes a foundation for comprehensive local production and support of key shipboard air defense systems.

This investment success is attributed to the proactive administrative support of Gumi City. The city expedited the relevant procedures and completed the rezoning to address the designation of a portion of the project site as a riverine area, which had previously restricted expansion. Furthermore, the city also provided infrastructure support, including rezoning of natural green spaces and improving access roads, to address business challenges.

Gumi City has proactively addressed institutional and locational obstacles to enhance investment execution, and LIG Nex1 has built on this foundation to steadily expand its large-scale investments. This is serving as a driving force for Gumi City's establishment as a comprehensive production base encompassing the entire defense industry.
