【브레이크뉴스 】이성현 기자= 북한의 주력 무기인 장사정포를 요격하는 미사일 방어체계 전용 조립 및 점검장이 구미에 들어선다. LIG넥스원은 30일 'LIG넥스원 구미 하우스'에서 준공식을 갖고 K-방산 주력 기업으로서의 또다른 시동을 걸었다

LIG넥스원 신익현 사장, 김장호 구미시장, 구자근‧김영식 국회의원, 윤재호 구미 상공회의소 회장을 비롯해 방위사업청, 국방과학연구소, 육군본부, 공군미사일사령부 및 군 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 열린 이날 준공식은 장사정포 요격체계 개발의 주관기관과 시제업체가 함께 전용 설비의 완공을 기념하고, 대한민국 영공수호를 위한 범국가적 과제의 성공적인 완수를 다짐하는 의미로 마련됐다.

장사정포 요격체계는 북한 장사정포 위협으로부터 국가‧군사 중요시설 등을 방호하기 위해 개발 중인 고속의 다표적 대응을 위한 탐지 및 추적 기능과 교전통제 역량을 갖춘 최첨단 무기체계로 알려져 있다. 

국방과학연구소 주관으로 탐색 개발이 진행 중이며, 시제품 개발을 위한 체계종합을 담당하고 있는 LIG넥스원은 천궁Ⅱ를 비롯한 정밀 유도무기 개발에 참여하며 쌓아온 기술력과 노하우를 토대로 한국형 미사일방어체계(KAMD, Korea air and missile defense)의 핵심 전력인 장사정포 요격체계의 성공적 개발에 기여하고 유도무기 체계종합 부문의 선도적 입지를 굳건히 한다는 계획이다.

총 70억 원을 투자해 완공된 장사정포 요격체계 전용 조립 및 점검장은 유도무기 체계 조립, 점검장, 모니터링, 안전관리 시스템 등 최적화된 장비 및 설비를 갖췄다. 

장사정포 요격체계 개발 완료 이후에도 안정적인 품질관리를 위한 핵심 설비로서의 역할 뿐 아니라, 향후 양산까지 활용할 수 있어 조기 전력화에도 이바지할 것으로 기대된다.

구미시는 K-방산 앵커 기업인 LIG넥스원과의 협력을 통해 낙동강 무인수상정 테스트베드 구축 등 국방 유무인 복합체계 특화 방산혁신클러스터 사업을 진행하고 있다. 구미시는 도시계획 변경, 레이더 시험동 증축 지원 등 지역 방산 생태계와 지역경제 활성화를 위해 행정적 지원을 아끼지 않을 예정이라고 밝히고 있다.

이날 준공식에서 신익현 LIG넥스원 사장은 “국내 최고의 유도무기 전문기업으로서 사명감을 가지고 명품 장사정포요격체계 개발‧양산을 위해 더욱 노력하겠다”고 했다.

 A completion ceremony was held at the LIG Nex1 Gumi House, an assembly and inspection facility dedicated to missile defense systems that intercept long-range artillery, North Korea's main weapon.

The completion ceremony was held with the attendance of LIG Nex1 President Shin Ik-hyun, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho, National Assembly members Koo Ja-geun and Kim Young-sik, Gumi Chamber of Commerce Chairman Yoon Jae-ho, as well as officials from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, Agency for Defense Development, Army Headquarters, Air Force Missile Command, and military officials. It was prepared by the development organization and the prototype company to commemorate the completion of the dedicated facility and to pledge to successfully complete the national task to protect the airspace of the Republic of Korea.

The long-range artillery interception system is known as a cutting-edge weapon system equipped with detection and tracking functions and engagement control capabilities for high-speed, multi-target response that is being developed to protect important national and military facilities from threats from North Korean long-range artillery.

Exploration and development are in progress under the supervision of the Agency for Defense Development, and LIG Nex1, which is in charge of system integration for prototype development, is developing the Korean Missile Defense System (KAMD, Korea Air) based on the technology and know-how accumulated while participating in the development of precision guided weapons including Cheongung II. The plan is to contribute to the successful development of the long-range artillery interception system, which is a core force of the missile defense system, and to solidify its leading position in the integrated guided weapons system sector.

The assembly and inspection site dedicated to the long-range artillery interception system, completed with a total investment of 7 billion won, is equipped with optimized equipment and facilities, including guided weapon system assembly, inspection site, monitoring, and safety management systems.

It is expected that it will not only serve as a core facility for stable quality control even after the development of the long-range artillery interception system is completed, but will also contribute to early deployment as it can be used for mass production in the future.

Gumi City is carrying out a defense innovation cluster project specializing in defense manned and unmanned complex systems, including the construction of an unmanned surface vehicle test bed on the Nakdong River through cooperation with LIG Nex1, a K-defense industry anchor company. Gumi City says it plans to spare no effort in administrative support to revitalize the local defense industry ecosystem and local economy, including changes to the city plan and support for the expansion of the radar test building.

At the completion ceremony on this day, Shin Ik-hyun, CEO of LIG Nex1, said, “As Korea’s best guided weapons specialist, we will work harder to develop and mass-produce a luxury long-range artillery interception system with a sense of mission.”

Regarding this, Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “I am grateful to the executives and staff of LIG Nex1 who are leading the way in contributing to the local community, revitalizing the local economy, and independent national defense.” He added, “Based on Gumi City’s active support for local defense companies, LIG Nex1 is a world-class company with a super-gap competitiveness.” He responded, “We will grow as a company and enable Gumi City to leap forward as the ‘K-Defense New Industry Capital.’”
