【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자= 한국수산자원공단(이하 수산공단, 이사장 이춘우) 동해본부는 오는 4월 18일 동해 해양보호구역으로 선정된 울릉군 천부 해중전망대에서 ‘보이는 바다숲’ 기념행사를 개최한다고 12일 밝혔다.

수산공단에 따르면 이번 ‘보이는 바다숲’ 기념행사는 바다 생태계의 황폐화의 심각성과 바다숲 조성의 중요성을 널리 알려, 국민과 함께 바다숲을 더욱 풍요롭게 만들기 위한 취지로 개최된다.

한편, 행사 개최지 울릉 천부 해중전망대는 수산공단이 울릉군과 공동으로 국민체감형 ‘보이는 바다숲’ 을 전국 최초 조성한 곳으로, 이곳에 방문한 해양 관광객들은 수중 기념 표지판을 통해 울릉도와 독도 고유종인 대황숲을 직접 확인할 수 있다.

수산공단은 기념행사를 기점으로 ‘2050 탄소중립’정책목표 달성에 기여하기 위해천연해조장 조성지에 대한 과학적·체계적 관리를 통해 해조류 서식환경 개선을 추진할 계획이다.

또한, 해조군락지 조성확대를 위해 추가로 울릉군 죽암해역을 비롯한 통구미해역에 천연해조장 조성관리 및 신규 후보지 조사를 추진할 예정이다.

이석희 수산공단 동해본부장은 “‘보이는 바다숲’조성을 토대로 대한민국 자연생태의 보고(寶庫)인 바다숲를 보호‧보전하고, 이와 함께 해양·수산분야 교육, 전시, 체험 등 콘텐츠 개발을 위해 국립해양과학관과 상호협력 방안을 모색하는 등 갯녹음 해소를 위해 더욱 노력하겠다.”고전했다.

    The Fisheries Corporation plans to promote improvement of the seaweed habitat environment through scientific and systematic management of the natural seaweed farm site in order to contribute to achieving the policy goal of '2050 carbon neutral' starting from the commemorative event.

   In addition, in order to expand the creation of seaweed habitats, it is planned to additionally promote the management of natural seaweed in the Jugam sea area of Ulleung-gun and the Tonggumi sea area and the investigation of new candidate sites.

   Lee Seok-hee, head of the Donghae Headquarters of the Fisheries Corporation, said, “Based on the creation of ‘visible sea forests’, we will protect and preserve the sea forests, which are the treasure trove of Korea’s natural ecology, and work together with the National Marine Science Museum to develop contents such as education, exhibitions, and experiences in the marine and fisheries sector. We will make more efforts to resolve the whitening of the sea by seeking ways to cooperate with each other.”
