【브레이크뉴스 경주】이성현 기자=경주엑스포대공원의 오랜 숙원사업이었던 서문 입구 신호등이 26일 오후 개통됐다고 경주시가 밝혔다.

서문입구 신호등은 지난해 연말 신호기와 과속단속 장비가 함께 설치된 후 1개월간의 시험가동 기간을 거쳐 이날 개통했다.

서문 입구 신호등 설치는 98년 개장이후 25년만으로, 경주엑스포대공원 관람객의 민원 및 안전상의 문제점으로 지적돼 왔다.

경주엑스포대공원을 방문하는 차량이 서문을 비롯 메인 주차장인 서편 주차장 이용시 사고의 위험이 높았다.

천군사거리에서 불국사 방향 보불로로 이어지는 삼거리까지 1.5KM 구간의 공원 앞 도로(경감로)는 그동안 6차선 대로에 신호등이 1곳 밖에 없어, 운전자들이 과속을 일삼아 항상 사고의 위험에 노출돼 있었다.

이번 신호등 설치로 경주엑스포 방문객은 물론 서문과 마주한 보덕동 행정복지센터의 방문객들도 진출입에 안전을 확보하게 됐다. 

류희림 경주엑스포대공원 대표는 “우리 공원의 오랜 숙원이었던 신호등 설치가 경주시의 도움으로 오늘 개통식을 갖게 돼 무척 기쁘다. 이 신호등은 엑스포 뿐만 아니라 보덕동 행정복지센터 및 도로 이용객 모두에게 안전한 교통환경을 제공할 것”이라고 말했다.

With the installation of the traffic lights, visitors to the Gyeongju Expo as well as visitors to the Bodeok-dong Administrative Welfare Center facing the west gate can secure entry and exit.

Ryu Hee-rim, CEO of Gyeongju Expo Grand Park, said, “I am very happy that the installation of traffic lights, which has been a long-cherished wish of our park, has an opening ceremony today with the help of Gyeongju City. This traffic light will provide a safe traffic environment not only for the Expo, but also for the Bodeok-dong Administrative Welfare Center and road users.”
