【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=한국가스공사(사장 최연혜)가 지난 18일 말레이시아 쿠알라룸푸르에서 말레이시아 국영 에너지 기업 페트로나스(Petronas)와 '액화천연가스·수소·재생에너지·탄소 포집 및 저장 등 청정에너지 분야 협력 강화를 위한 업무협약'을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

이번 협약은 글로벌 에너지 전환 흐름에 발맞춰 한국가스공사가 청정에너지 분야에서 국제적인 입지를 다지는 중요한 계기가 될 것으로 보인다.

974년 설립된 페트로나스는 전 세계 100여 개국에서 석유 및 가스 탐사·생산·정제 사업을 꾸준히 펼쳐온 글로벌 기업이다. 최근에는 수소·재생에너지 등 탈탄소 에너지 사업을 선도하며 미래 에너지 시장을 주도하고 있다.

협약식에는 오권택 한국가스공사 수소신사업단장과 셤사이리 이브라힘(Shamsairi M Ibrahim) 페트로나스 LNG 마케팅·트레이딩 부사장을 비롯한 양사 관계자 10여 명이 참석했다.

양사는 이번 협약을 통해 △LNG 밸류체인 △탄소 포집·저장(CCS) △수소·신재생에너지 프로젝트 등 다양한 분야에서 실무자 협의체를 구성하여 지속 가능한 협력 체계를 구축해 나갈 계획이다.

한국가스공사는 이번 협력으로 전 세계적으로 탈화석연료 및 수소 경제 전환이 가속화되는 상황에서 국내를 넘어 글로벌 청정에너지 생태계 구축에 본격적으로 참여하는 발판을 마련할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

오권택 수소신사업단장은 "이번 협약은 한국가스공사의 사업 역량과 페트로나스의 글로벌 네트워크가 결합하여 미래 에너지 시장을 함께 개척하는 중요한 계기"라며, "앞으로 양사가 시너지 효과를 낼 수 있는 협력 방안을 중점적으로 논의해 나가겠다"고 강조했다.

Korea Gas Corporation Strengthens Cooperation in Clean Energy with Malaysia's Petronas
