【브레이크뉴스 영천】이성현 기자=대구경북경제자유구역청(청장 김병삼)은 지난 7일 영천시청에서 ㈜카펙발레오와 투자양해각서(MOU)를 체결하고, 대구경북경제자유구역 영천하이테크파크지구에 전기차 배터리 시스템 생산시설을 구축한다고 밝혔다.

이날 협약식에는 신순철 ㈜카펙발레오 대표이사를 비롯해 김병삼 청장, 이남억 경상북도 공항투자본부장, 최기문 영천시장, 문희구 한국토지주택공사 대구경북지역본부장 등이 참석했다.

이번 협약에 따라 ㈜카펙발레오는 향후 5년간 총 1,600억 원을 투자, 최소 100명을 신규 채용하며, 영천하이테크파크지구 내 전기차 배터리 시스템 어셈블리(BSA) 생산 시설을 조성할 계획이다.

㈜카펙발레오는 PHC그룹의 계열사로, 대구에 본사와 연구소를 두고 있으며, 경북 왜관과 성주에서 자동변속기, 토크컨버터, 트랜스미션 부품을 생산하는 대표적인 중견 자동차부품 기업이다. 지난 2017년, 한국파워트레인과 프랑스 발레오(Valeo)의 합작으로 설립됐으며, 글로벌 자동차 시장을 대상으로 부품을 공급해왔다.

영천에서 생산될 배터리 시스템 어셈블리(BSA)는 배터리 셀 그룹을 BMS(배터리관리시스템)과 기타 부품들과 통합하는 장치로, 전기차, 에너지 저장장치(ESS), 스마트 모빌리티 등 다양한 산업 분야에 활용될 전망이다.

신순철 대표이사는 “전기차 배터리 수요가 급증하는 글로벌 시장 흐름에 발맞춰, 물류 접근성과 지자체 지원 정책이 우수한 영천하이테크파크지구를 최적의 투자지로 선택하게 됐다”며, “국산 배터리 시스템 기술력 확보를 통해 수입 대체와 산업 생태계 강화에 기여하겠다”고 밝혔다.

김병삼 청장은 “이번 투자는 대구경북 미래차 산업의 벨류체인 강화와 영천하이테크파크지구의 기업 입주 활성화에 중요한 전환점이 될 것”이라며 기대감을 드러냈다.

한편, 대구경북경제자유구역청은 이번 협약을 시작으로 전기차·친환경차 산업 유치에 더욱 박차를 가할 계획이다.

According to this agreement, KAPEC VALEO Co., Ltd. plans to invest a total of 160 billion won over the next five years, hire at least 100 new employees, and establish an electric vehicle battery system assembly (BSA) production facility in the Yeongcheon High-Tech Park District.

Capec Valeo Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of PHC Group, and is a representative mid-sized auto parts company that produces automatic transmissions, torque converters, and transmission parts in Waegwan and Seongju, Gyeongbuk. It was established in 2017 as a joint venture between Korea Powertrain and France’s Valeo, and has been supplying parts to the global auto market.

The battery system assembly (BSA) to be produced in Yeongcheon is a device that integrates the battery cell group with the BMS (battery management system) and other parts, and is expected to be used in various industrial fields such as electric vehicles, energy storage systems (ESS), and smart mobility.

CEO Shin Soon-chul said, “In line with the global market trend where demand for electric vehicle batteries is rapidly increasing, we have chosen Yeongcheon High-Tech Park District, which has excellent logistics accessibility and local government support policies, as the optimal investment site,” and added, “We will contribute to import substitution and strengthening the industrial ecosystem by securing domestic battery system technology.”

Commissioner Kim Byeong-sam expressed his expectations, saying, “This investment will be an important turning point in strengthening the value chain of the future car industry in Daegu and Gyeongbuk and in activating the entry of companies into the Yeongcheon High-Tech Park District.” Meanwhile, the Daegu and Gyeongbuk Free Economic Zone Authority plans to further accelerate the attraction of electric and eco-friendly car industries starting with this agreement.
