이번 행사는 추석 연휴 동안 고향을 방문하지 못하고 기숙사에 머무는 유학생들을 위해 마련된 자리로, 150여 명의 외국인 학생들이 참여했다. 참가자들은 송편을 빚으며 한국의 명절 문화를 체험하고, 서로 다른 국적의 학생들과 명절의 정을 나누는 시간을 가졌다.

중국 출신 천하오 학생은 “송편을 직접 만들어보며 한국의 추석 문화를 이해할 수 있는 좋은 경험이었다”며 “다른 유학생들과 함께 어울리며 한국 전통문화를 체험할 수 있어 뜻깊었다”고 소감을 전했다.

류완하 총장은 “외국인 유학생들이 학업뿐 아니라 한국의 문화를 이해하고 고국에 대한 그리움을 달랠 수 있도록 이번 행사를 마련했다”며 “앞으로도 유학생들이 동국의 가족으로서 학교와 지역사회에 안정적으로 정착할 수 있도록 다양한 지원을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 류 총장은 지난 10일 외국인 유학생 기숙사를 방문해 연휴 동안 귀국하지 못한 학생들과 음식을 함께 나누며 유학생들의 의견을 청취하는 등 따뜻한 소통의 시간을 가졌다.

Dongguk University WISE Campus Celebrates Chuseok with International Students by Making Songpyeon

Dongguk University WISE Campus (President Ryu Wan-ha) held a "Chuseok Songpyeon Making Event" on the 5th at the Student Center cafeteria, where international students experienced traditional Korean holiday culture.

This event, designed for international students unable to visit their hometowns during the Chuseok holiday and staying in dormitories, brought together approximately 150 international students. Chen Hao, a Chinese student, said, "Making songpyeon was a valuable experience that allowed me to understand Korean Chuseok culture. It was meaningful to be able to mingle with other international students and experience Korean traditional culture."

President Ryu Wan-ha stated, "We organized this event to help international students understand Korean culture beyond their studies and alleviate their longing for their homeland." He added, "We will continue to provide diverse support to help international students settle into the Dongguk University family and the local community."

Meanwhile, on the 10th, President Ryu visited the international student dormitory, sharing a meal with students who were unable to return home during the holiday and listening to their opinions, creating a warm and meaningful experience.
