‘동서미래포럼‘은 제20대 대선 당시 활동했던 ‘동서화합미래위원회’와 대선 이후 윤석열 정부의 성공적인 출범을 위해 발족한 ‘제20대 대통령취임식 준비위원회’ 참여 인사들을 기반으로 영호남 지역갈등 극복과 동서 화합을 선도하여 진정한 국민통합을 이룩하자는 취지로 출범한 시민 모임으로, 대구는 오창균 상임대표, 광주는 한경노·임진석 상임대표, 서울은 이미현 상임대표가 지역의 포럼을 이끌며 2년째 활발한 활동을 이어오고 있다. 포럼 내 싱크탱크로는 동서미래전략원(전승철 원장)을 두고 있다.
행사는 ‘동서미래포럼’이 2024 총선을 70여 일 앞두고 오랜 기간 국민통합과 국가발전을 가로막고 있는 지역 구도를 타파하고 우리 사회를 변화시킬 통합형 인재를 발굴·지원하는데 범국민적 힘을 합칠 것을 결의하고자 기획되었다.
이날 행사에는 대구·광주·서울 지역 동서미래포럼 회원은 물론 대구 2·28민주운동기념사업회, 광주 5·18민주화운동부상자회, 전국호남향우회, 재경대구경북시도민회 등 영·호남 지역의 주요 시민단체 대표자와 회원들도 참여하여 정치권의 이기적인 행태에 의해 고착되어 온 지역갈등 구도 극복과 동서화합에 대한 실천 의지를 다질 예정이다.
이날 행사에서는 ‘동서미래포럼’의 명예 회장을 맡고 있는 박주선 제20대 대통령취임식 준비위원회 위원장이 지난 2년간의 포럼 활동 경과보고를 진행하고, 우동기 대통령 직속 지방시대위원회 위원장과 김형태 전 한남대 총장, 이성림 전 한국예술문화단체총연합회 회장이 축사를 전한다.
